In the west if you make a peaceful protest in a proper venue against the government or big business, it's not guaranteed that many will listen to you, but at least it's guaranteed that you won't go to prison because it's a peaceful protest held in a proper venue you are making. In other countries, even if you make a peaceful protest in a proper venue you'll still be imprisoned immediately..
