To be fair, the Filipino people have nothing to threaten with. No airforce, a joke of a navy and an army that isn't much chop

<quoted text>So they retreated back across from Cambodia and North Vietnam after the start of the conflict? That is what we in the military call a defeat. The guy who controls the ground and sky is the winner.

If history is any indicator of the prowess of the Vietnamese soldier, lets look at past enemies who were defeated:
French
US
China
That is a pretty formidable force.
Name one major country that China has defeated in the 20th century?
Firstly, the French colonised Vietnam. That's hardly a defeat.
Secondly, America could defeat Vietnam in an hour if they wanted to.

That will never happen. Indians are too stupid to ever be a super power. Why else would a small country like the UK be able to colonise you?

Based on you-tube there is no need to worry about China's Naval Warships none are even ranked in the top twenty. When it comes to fighting China is ranked last, even a small country like VN will beat them, in history Mongolia, Japan and India has whoop them. But econmic wars that's another sotry.

I always wonder why the Japanese complain about China so much, because the Japanese society is even more opaque and corrupt than the Chinese one. After WWII, the same thugs and criminals who ran Japan before were reinstated into power. The biggest party LDP, ruling Japan since decades with just very short interruptions by other parties, was built by high-ranking Yakuza members (Yoshio Kodama), fascists, and war criminals.
Japan today is a pseudo-democratic society which is on the brink of fascism again, while China is aiming to become more open and democratic, even if the process is very slow and China sometimes can't help itself but use those old strategies now and then.
Overall, I see China become a strong, safe country in the next couple of decades, while Japan does seem to be able to avert the downward spiral into meaninglessness.
I think it is a mentality issue of the society. The Chinese are freedom-loving people who will try to change bad things, while the Japanese are very scared people (especially of foreign influences) who are too corrupt and too stubborn to become intelligent ever.
