Investors in China should be wary of revolution

China is heading for a social revolution, according to Fidelity fund manager Anthony Bolton.

Mr Bolton is one of Britain’s most famous fund managers, having earned investors in his Fidelity UK Special Situations fund an average of 20pc a year for 27 years.

He stepped down in 2010 to launch a China-focused investment trust for Fidelity, but performance was disappointing.

He is confident of turning around the situation and remains bullish about the prospects for the country and its stock market.

“There is a new generation of internationally educated, internet-informed individuals who will push for reforms,” he said.“They are aware of the realities of their country and their government in a way that no previous generation has been. The people will want a say.”

Ongoing political rumblings with Japan and South Korea will prove a sticking point with this generation, who are able to access non-censored news through social media websites, he said.

Mr Bolton is not alone in his musings.

A recent debate chaired by Duncan Lawrie Private Bank and attended by Cass Buisness School Professor Kate Phylaktis concluded that the burgeoning middle classes of China, with many business executives being educated in the West, are making the country less tolerant of corruption.

Mr Bolton said that the government was “damned if they do reform, and damned if they don’t”.

“Some people are nervous of investing in China because of bad local government debt. This does not concern me,” he said.“Local goverments are simply part of the main government, which is a cash-rich body. What does concern me is the socio-political changes which will be taking place over the next decade.”

At launch of his fund in April 2010, Mr Bolton announced plans to stay until 2013, before handing over the running of his China fund to a hand selected team. However, last year following poor performance he extended this tenure to April 2014.

Speaking exclusively to the Telegraph last week, Mr Bolton confirmed that he would say until "at least" 2014 but that he wanted to leave having given investors a profit. Currently the share price is 96p, the fund launched at £1 a share.

Yes, change is inevitable in China, as the moribund and corrupt CCP dictatorship is clearly on its last legs.

Obviously, he knows what he is talking about.

He's not alone in thinking the CCP's house of cards is due for imminent collapse:

Marc Faber says investors should fear China’s ‘colossal credit bubble’

March 14, 2013, 4:12 AM
High-profile market bear Marc Faber says investors should be worrying about China’s “colossal credit bubble,” telling CNBC late Wednesday that how China chooses to deal with the situation will be crucial to determining whether the world’s second-largest economy can continue to grow.

“Whether they can ensure continuous growth will depend on reforms and how to deflate the colossal credit bubble we have in China,” said Faber, editor and publisher of The Gloom, Boom and Doom Report.“This is going to be a huge problem because we have so much underground credit, questionable loans outstanding and questionable investments.”

Faber said China’s economic growth is probably much slower than official numbers suggest.

China won’t miss its growth target of 7.5%, he told CNBC:

They will announce it, but the reality will be much lower. If you look at the statistics that are more relaible like Korean, Japanese or Taiwanese exports … then export figures from China don’t add up entirely.

I always said the CCP fakes the numbers, just as it did so tragically during the Great Leap Failure and massive famine it caused that made 45 million Chinese STARVE TO DEATH!

The CCP ran stories in the propaganda about "record harvests"!
