U.S. has stolen millions of text messages from Chinese phones, claims Snowden

The U.S. is stealing Chinese cell phone data, according to whistle-blower Edward Snowden.
The 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor claims he has the evidence to prove that the U.S. government has hacked Chinese phone companies and stolen millions of text messages and other information.
Snowden made the claims from Hong Kong where he's in hiding after the U.S. issued an arrest warrant for him, and said the U.S. had snooped on targets in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, including the prestigious Tsinghua University.

The university, which is home to the mainland's six major backbone networks from where internet data from millions of Chinese citizens can be gathered, was breached as recently as January, Snowden said.
'Thereís far more than this,' Snowden said in an interview with the South China Morning Post on June 12.

Surely this give the Chinese enough reason to protect Ed Snowden from US persecution.

I don't think the USA would stoop down so low as to hack, what it was is for info gathering and info for nat'l security. We are too proud to steal hi tech from China.

Info gathering or hacking, still it does not give you the right to infiltrate backbone servers of any nations, not just China. Especially you are pointing your fingers at others when you are the guilty one. It does not give any credibility to your claim at all.

This Snowden story may be breaking news to you people but it is not to well informed, learned people. Newspapers and media owners make money with this kind of infos making house wives and their politicians-wanna-be husbands gossip about it every day.

While the newspaper people are making money, you China guys are wasting precious time opening threads arguing for nothing thus billions of yuans are wasted in time spent here instead of working.

Spying is an old trade, as old as prostitution. In China, wives pay investigators to spy on their husbands to see if they are not hiding concubines somewhere in a remote villa. Eunuchs spied for their emperors, emperor's concubines etc...

Tiger, it is not breaking news. Most people would have already suspected this, even American Hollywood and TV series HomeLand will tell you that. Right now it has just become non-fiction.

Im pretty sure most people knew what Snowden revealed. Its confirmed now, but I think its naÔve to think no one knew about spying.

The USA has been cyber attacked by communist china many many many times. So of course the USA is going to do what we can to fight back, protect ourselves, etc. It is only natural.

The best we can hope for is for the hacking and spying to go on without the hypocrisy. Let's be honest and admit that we are all liars - except me of course. I enjoy the company of Filipina prostitutes and have always been honest about it.

In Ecuador's most extensive statement about the case, the foreign minister hailed Snowden on Monday as "a man attempting to bring light and transparency to facts that affect everyone's fundamental liberties."

The decision whether to grant Snowden the asylum he has requested is a choice between "betraying the citizens of the world or betraying certain powerful elites in a specific country," Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino told reporters while visiting Vietnam.

This is highly embarrassing for UK. Not only we help US to hack our own people, we also help US to listen to other countries. The biggest insult is US is also hacking UK. What's that to gain from helping our big brother? It's total stupidity on our part and betrayal by someone we stand by through thick or thin.

They spy on us too. Israel has been caught spying on us which is a real insult given all we have done for them. The ugly reality I guess is that most every country, if capable, is spying on every other.

So why accused others of spying US so openly and aggressive when US is spying on others, hypocrite. Should have sort things out quietly rather than big fuss, now you have mud all over your face.

Every country has its own intelligence service. Canada has one too. The UK has MI6 and James Bond. But in some countries, there are internet pirates or hackers who try to enter foreign government agencies like the Pentagon, CIA headquarters etc.. These people usually work alone and may sell the information they gather to terrorists or whoever pays them
