Nearly 17,000 people have been punished for flouting the Chinese Communist Party's "frugality" guidelines, state media said on Monday, in the latest sign of efforts to clamp down on corruption.

A total of 16,699 people have been punished for violating the rules announced last December, the state Xinhua news agency said, citing the ruling party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Their offences including violating a "ban on government building projects, excessive spending on receptions, use of government vehicles for private purposes, unnecessary trips in China and abroad using public money, as well as excessively large wedding banquets", Xinhua said, citing the commission's notice.

President Xi Jinping, who took office in March after becoming Communist Party chief in November 2012, has vowed to crack down on corruption at all levels of government, calling graft a threat to the future of the ruling party.

Yes, it has been a very bloody purge in the crumbling Chinese Communist Party dictatorship. Jiang's Faction has been hobbled for now.

But the corrupt members of the Xi "Princeling" Faction of course get away with THEIR thefts!

What a crude and backwards regime.....
