In decline? is this what Sinhalese are hoping that by backing China (a country that regularly stamps out Buddhism) they can road on their coat tails?
Western Europe and the US predominantly control the global economy. They will be for the next century at least. The proof of the pudding is that you choose to live in the UK and 99% of your Sinhalese brethren are tripping over each other to live in the west. I don't see many Sinhalese scrambling to live in Africa, Arab countries or China.
Well said Elias. Without Europe or US Srilanka will go bankrupt in days. If Europe dont buy panties and tea, half the Srillanka will have to live on Parripu.

Elias,
China now allows Buddhism to flourish as well as Taoism and Confucianism because those are considered culturally Chinese. The faiths that they occasionally suppress are Christianity and Islam (to a lesser extent)China's problem with Tibetans groups is separatism, not religion per se.

I believe the mindset of the Sinhalese elite and the Sinhalese middle class are quite different in relation to their aspirations for educating their children and the prospect of migrating.

How do you explain the continual destruction of Tibetan Buddhist culture? Can you imagine if India waltzed into Sri Lanka and started pouring millions of Indians into the country and destroying the buddhist institutions in your country?

China has no intention of destroying Tibetan Buddhism. China is opposed to Tibetan separatism. Tibet was throughout its history was a sort of autonomous vassal state of China- it minted its own coins with the portrait of the emperor, rather than the dalai Lama.
in Beijing there is Tibetan Buddhist temple built by Chinese emperors so that their respected vassals the Dalai lamas could worship when they came to report to the Emperors of China.

Actually, this is a widely accepted prediction. The American Republicans are already blaming it on Obama because its gonna happen on his watch.

The Chinese are just more careful with money and banking practises, and they have the entire world in debt to the them (including SL).

I found it funny to watch Obama and Cameron sucking up to the chinese begging for handouts and trade agreements. A nation they tried to destroy just 20 years earlier.

And china knows better than to put all its hope in the west, its creating a Europe in Asia by ensuring growth and trade between asian nations.

How do i know this? Because i recently attended a lecture by the Chairman of The Asian Development Bank. It was truly enlightening.

Thats exactly what happened, but replace India with Britain and Indians with Tamils.

But the issue has now been dealt with, for the moment!

What an idiot!

Under communism all religion is sanctioned, but China has softened its Communist stance in recent years. Buddhism is accepted as part and parcel of China's rich cultural heritage.

But the middle class is rising rapidly, I can't remember the exact numbers but they hope to have increased the middle class to 60% by 2020. I could try and explain the pitfalls of this to you but i fear you are too much of an imbecile to understand
