MONTREAL -- An RCMP expert in electronic surveillance has been arrested in Montreal and charged with selling police secrets to organized crime, Sun Media has learned.
Angelo Cecere, a 50-year-old visually impaired civilian employee, has worked for decades for the RCMP, listening to sensitive police wiretaps of criminals under investigation, translating them from Italian, and interpreting their meaning.
CRIMINALS TIPPED OFF
The RCMP learned recently that they had a mole amongst them during an important investigation when they discovered their reports had somehow gotten into the hands of certain criminals, sources said.
A special squad of internal investigators then set up a sting and tricked the employee.
Cpl. Sylvain L'Heureux confirms an RCMP employee was arrested following an investigation, but would say no more.
But sources told Sun Media that the employee was always considered - until recently - to be beyond suspicion, and was usually assigned "extremely sensitive dossiers."
Cecere, who worked at the RCMP's headquarters in the Montreal suburb of Westmount, was arrested in mid-July. His Montreal home was also searched.
He was reportedly released on bail after signing a promise to appear in court to answer charges of breach of trust.
Met by a Sun Media reporter in front of his home yesterday, Cecere refused to comment on the charges.
"I do not have anything to say to you," he said. "Get out of here!"
Sources said police found RCMP documents during the search of Cecere's home, with some papers dating from secret investigations as far back as the 1990s.
Sources allege Cecere claimed he had the papers because he wanted to write a book about his career.
But RCMP employees are sworn to secrecy about what they have learned on the job, and possession of such documents can be illegal.
News of Cecere's arrest has been kept from the public until now, but it is already known to organized crime, sources said.
DOZENS OF COPS ON CASE
The RCMP is now trying to find out if any damage was caused to their investigations by the alleged leaks and has put dozens of agents on the case to determine when the surveillance expert allegedly first began working for the Mob.
Sources also say the Mounties are looking at Cecere's work to see if he might have translated certain criminal conversations between mobsters to render them inoffensive. Those checks would take months because of the mountain of wiretaps officers will have to sift through.
*LAZY PEOPLE READ HERE*
The article basically says a mole was arrested working inside the RCMP. He was selling RCMP secrets, files and information to the organized crime networks HIS devision was in charge of eliminating.

Well today aparently this surveillance person was cleared of all charges. How sad for someone that is so guilty! He is a liar and a deceiver and should have been locked away for a long time. What a mistake to set him free.

John just ignore the simpleton. When I started reading the thread I figured ah,'Italian eh, too Brutus!' Then as the thought formed I thought "Don't even bother voicing it , you'll sound like Nightflyer." Ignore him as does anyone with half a brain. Don't let him stress you. Just let him make a fool of himself as the label he wishes to carry "racist fool" among many others which he proudly espouses. He does have certain pugnacious qualities that stir the hearts of thinking humans into unreasonable outbursts at times. Reflect on to what area in your own person that you might wish to direct energies of a constructive nature to overcome these slight flaws of character and profit from his idiocy. |

klaus what is your opinion of the mole that was cleared of all charges today?

That guy cleared,? what a travesty......
He could very conceivably have caused more trauma to people than Dr. Smith. Caused the deaths of people. Caused many millions in wasted investigations. What do you think of such a person getting off? This is why I try to do my bit. Maybe one day they will be held to account. I hope to see it one day |
