I'm typing very very slowwww now dun oops dummy.
Detroit provides jobs to you Hamilton union guys.
China is where the business investment from Canada went.
LOL..4 patents on what?
You can repeat that 'til the cows come home. You still haven't backed up your claim about investment worthy Canadian companies in Detroit 25 years ago.
Now, are you going to admit you don't have a clue what you were talking about? Or are you going to continue to pretend you never said any such thing?

Not all oil extraction is as filthy as tar sand oil. Sweet, low sulfur light crude is relatively clean and easy to pump. Alberta is polluting huge volumes of potable water, leaving a mess for future generations to pay to clean up---public tax money will be needed to clean up, while profits are accrued to the private companies--this is corporate welfare at its worst! Alberta's oil is not economically viable and only survives because of government hand-outs, as the industry expert's article today makes clear in the Toronto Star. The oil industry is destroying farming, fisheries, tourism and other industries, as they pollute and ruin the land and water systems. The big benefit from the oil goes to a handful of people while everyone else pays with bad health and a bad environmental legacy and an economy in ruins as petro-dollars destroy manufacturing and even sale of services as Canadian products and services are priced out of the market because of a petro-inflated dollar---that too is part of the big picture.
Instead of moving into the 21st century with new technologies, new materials, new ways of harnessing power and energy, the stupid Harper idiots have hitched their wagon to 19th century resource trade! How small and uncreative and plain dumb is that!
You are right about that. What the oil and gas companies are doing is raping the Earth when it is already close to collapsing from pollution and from global warming, and the new model they have is, as you say, let the taxpayers pay to clean up the polluted water and air, finish off the dying environment and it's our problem. This is what is going on not only with processing the sand tar oil, but also with the massive chemicals they are using to frack for shale oil and for natural gas. There is a documentary about fracking for natural gas "Gasland" and it really shows how toxic the whole thing is. They dump massive amounts of toxic chemicals into the ocean. They are finishing off the Earth and today they don't want to pay taxes nor pay to clean up their pollution. This is the last grab for carbon energy and this time they don't want to invest in the U.S. they just want to grab the carbon energy and sell it and who cares they finish off the human race with fracking. the oil and gas companies got Bush to invade Iraq so they could get control of the oil in Iraq. It's down to oil wars, run in and frack and run out. It's no longer a matter of the oil companies being loyal to the U.S. Also, it's not capitalism to have a $5 trillion war to secure the oil in Iraq to keep Exxon and BP in business. That's not capitalism. People have no idea what is really going on. The Repubs and the people on Fox TV sell it as the Iraq war was to "protect" us when in reality is was to get control of 20 percent of the remaining world's oil reserves for the major oil companies who were about to go under from having no reserves left. Most oil is owned by countries now, like Iran, Iraq, Venuzeula, not by private oil companies, and that's the real reason for the Iraq war, for control of oil. And that is also why the people on Fox sell it to open up federal lands for drilling. The oil companies are pariahs that don't have their own reserves anymore so they use us to survive, our tax money for wars, our federal lands. We should nationalize our oil like other countries have, and get rid of the oil companies. Corporations are leeches on all of us. We would be better off with localization, small businesses and ending corporate globalization, get rid of the corporations owning our politicians.

I am not a historian, but have several graduate degrees, in addition to my medical degree. I posted with substantive material. In your reply, you have nothing to say. Some years ago you boasted of your business which is nothing more than exploiting other people. You produce nothing and contribute nothing, except to take a cut of the earnings of others. Now run along. Speak when you are spoken to and do not let yourself be seen or heard until you are called upon. Now scram.

WHEN I WAS A YOUNG CHEMISTRY STUDENT, one of my professors for physical chemistry had been an Alberta oil industry chemist, so I am not writing as someone who is uninformed. Seeing as how I worked in industrial organic chemistry decades ago, I would suggest your understanding is rooted in old technology. Many of the plastics, rubber, nylon, and industrial products are used to make mountains of junk and while junk is a major source of employment and money makers for some companies, overall, humanity and economies would be way better off without the mountain of garbage which often is not biodegradable within a reasonable time frame. Before nylon, cotton, linen, silk, wool and other natural materials served humanity well.

I dunno. Idiots like you never seemed to have a problem with that arrangement during the 12 years of Liberals doing the same thing.

Where were all the left-tards like you and Pammy then?

Then of course are the GROSS overstatements of how dirty the oil sands are. Recent studies by energy industry experts, Nature Magazine AND NASA have ALL claimed that the oil sands are only about HALF as "bad" as being portrayed by chicken littles who have an incessant need to tell us the sky is falling.

Of course, you also decided to fall back on the ol "Dutch Disease" myth about Canada. The oil industry didn't kill off Canada's manufacturing base. It was killed off in much the same way America's was; Too many consumers wanting cheap goods and too many investors wanted more bang for their investment buck. And in Ontario, McNuggets helped to kill off what was left with his disastrous green energy policy.
In fact, countries like Spain, Britain, Germany, Holland and Denmark are moving away from wind and solar subsidies because these methods of power generation are NOT providing enough of a benefit to counter the economic losses in jobs.
Green energy creates negative employment and upward spiralling energy costs.
So until a viable alternative comes around, oil isn't going anywhere.
And yeah, a lot of useless junk is made from oil. Useless items like computers, monitors, TVs, coaxial cable, cell phones, bandages, surgical gloves and gowns, antihistamines, cortisone, roofing tiles, anesthetics, artifical limbs, heart valves, antiseptics, rubbing alcohol, PVC pipes, eyeglasses, antifreeze and the list goes on. Yep, what a bunch of useless junk.

I also notice that you're another one that bitches about oil, yet has no viable solution or ideas for replacing it.

<quoted text>I agree. The rich knew that cheap oil was running out, Bush and Cheney knew that Saudi oil production was beginning to peak. The Saudis are building solar panels all over the place now. They use most of the oil that they use to make salt water into fresh water. They do not have any fresh water left. Only the billionaires will survive the end of cheap oil and the end of water, top soil, etc.
Greed kept this mess going. If the people running corporations had been honest they would have limited the human population. All every CEO of a corporation thinks about is him making the most profit, his job security, his huge salary, so they let the Earth get way overpopulated to do constant growth. The whole entire circus show is based on more people, build more homes, more jobs, sell more stuff. Now the oil and water and top soil is almost gone and at the same time the population is over 7 billion. And this is a big reason why China went capitalist and they are burning oil and coal like there is no tomorrow. And this is why we see the extreme weather events now and the droughts now. China really speed up global warming.
You want massive Earth population declines? Not a problem. I watched some very interesting conspiracy videos by Alex Jones and a guy named Cooper. The New World Order has plans in the works to bring about a One World Government and mass population reductions by wars, famine, disease, natural disasters. The leftover people can be micro chipped and herded into detention camps. The world is a mess and only Big Brother/Emperor Palpatine/Darth Vader types and the evil empire can bring about order. It takes a Dark Lord to rule this circus. The sheeple deserve to be herded. I rooted for the Galactic Empire in the Star Wars movies and the novels 1984 and Brave New World. LOEvlL

Preston Manning's gov't actually showed Chretien/Martin how to balance the books!

harper is reactionary to events, look how China thought they could bring in cheap mining labour to BC. harper/chrissy clarke thought that would be good for Canada.
BC unions thought different, that project with Chinese investment in Canada is now being re-evaluated.

Good on the BC unions here!

Chinese investment is good, but not at any cost...harper/chrissy clarke idiots have to understand that.
