Well they come speaking English. They have historically made good immigrants. Their country is not completely different than out own etc.

Sounds reasonable.

Barry,I can appreciate that Canada was not your cup of tea but I have to wonder where you were. Canada is a huge country and quite varied. Now, you are off in Holland. Maybe a bit of a wanderer not a stay anywhere kind of soul.

Yes, let it be the Irish! I'm so sick of the Asian imports. Enough is enough!

A warm and friendly welcome to all the Irish!

Hmmmm it seems there's some sort of 5 year gear up time so my question is, why the hell are we importing MORE people to fill specific jobs when we could be hiring actual Canadians to work at these CANADIAN jobs???

Irish or not, enough is enough already.
And a reciprocal agreement isn't much of a deal for Canadians if the employment situation in Ireland is still in the tank.
I find it difficult to believe that with all the plant closures in Ontario alone, this company can't find 200 skilled tradesmen/women from Canada.

No offense to you Irish folk intended. This is about economics and employment for Canadians and nothing else.

It's not really trade jobs. It would be jobs of a higher skill or that they are not filling.
And don't be one of those guys, Canada for the Canadians. I'd expect that from an Englishman or an American. It's everyone's planet bro. And we go there to work it helps your economy. We are good people. And so are Canadians from my experience in your great country. And 80% of Irish that go there only go for a year or two or will wait for things to Turn around here and then leave. Because Ireland is a beautiful place.

Too right! Unfortunately our government seems hell bent on importing workers, regardless of any special skills. I hardly think working as a Car Rental PR or Bartending is considered specialized? Also, why are we giving money to other countries to improve their employment when we can't even solve our own dilemma? If Canada really needed people with specialized training, we could take those same dollars and offer Canadians a chance. Including our FN's.

Still, I'm glad to see that Kenney is at least looking at something other than Asians. Of course this doesn't exclude them either. And this will in no way balance the overall intake of foreign workers/immigrants [sigh]

It's 2012 guys. Deal with the new world. We are all one. This talk is always a wafer thin cover of what is basically racism.
And most white Canadians are not actual Canadians there in lies the irony if what you're saying.
I'd expect this crap from red neck republican Americans. It's sad to read your comments

Mass immigration creates racism. Go into any western country forum on Topix and you'll find tons of it. And what do you mean by "most white Canadians aren't actually Canadians"?

I have seen hard working First Nations that still struggle to get a job, we are good hearted people and we are being sent to trades schools for education. I myself am taking my Bachelors of Education along with my Bachelors of Arts. I got four year's left I am a long ways away... but still I have a brother in law that had been working with a mining company for over two years before he had a back injury, he couldn't make it to work for two week's and they gave his job away to an immigrant. Although I welcome immigrants in with open arms Canada needs to start thinking about its own people and seeing that they need jobs as well before importing the next group of immigrants to take jobs that could be going towards skilled and hard working Canadians.
