It looks as though some of you didn't read the article too carefully. One of the biggest hog producers went out of business. When that happens, farmers, as the article explained, are going that way as well. The US and EU as well as Japan have histories of too many farm subsidies.

It's merely a question of supply and demand. Aggravated by the soaring loonie. Canadians may derive a little more prestige with a dollar that is worth more and more, but this is yet one more manifestion of the problems it can cause. Now there are too many guys in the business and no one is making any money.

If only the same economics were happening right now for the the Newfoundland seal hunters, unfortunately, it's probably stil worth it for them to continue doing what they do.

Big government at it’s pandering best, steal money from the tax payers, and use it to raise the prices for food, which will generate more tax revenue for more pandering. Of course the tax payer gets screwed from both ends.

I would be really angry if my tax money was going to pay hog farmers to purposely kill pigs in order to artificially drive up the price of pork.

Of course, since its liberals in Canada who are doing this, you wont hear organizations like PETA, etc. complain.

Another point, this situation can be attributed to the cost of feed going up.

The cost of feed is going up because of corn based ethanol.

Corn based ethanol has not been carefully planned and this is another social expermient of the liberals.
