The Myanmar (Burma) junta doesn't want to help these people. It's that simple.

I would be careful to be critical of other countries after our own failed responsibility in New Orleans after Katrina. Countries with strong militaries can always respond to these situations, when they are are stationed at home.

You are so wrong, those people had ample warning that a hurricane was coming and they chose to stay regardless.

Billions upon billions of tax dollars have been given to these people many of which do not deserve what they received.

1,836 died as a result of katrina where between 100,000 and 130,000 will die as a result of the cyclone in Myanmar. There will be more because another storm is on the way.

Nations like Myanmar and North Korea are ruled by despots and they have failed to engage properly with the world community. Sadly, this amplifies tragedies that fall upon the oppressed citizens of these countries.

It took this disaster to prove the already obvious! What part of any military junta is a productive and positive development? Just another label for a repressive dictatorship (are there really any benevolent ones?) that lives off the backs of its own people!

Sorry simpleton! The Katrina storm was known about for DAYS! You had bozos like Nagin and Blanco who mismanaged this from the start! I'll bet they are the first to cry states rights!

The BBC had a similar editorial to this one with similar conclusions.

Two disasters, contrasting reactions
By Bridget Kendall
Diplomatic correspondent, BBC News

Two powerful natural disasters, wreaking havoc through large swathes of territory.

Two Asian countries reeling from the horror of tens of thousands of people probably dead and hundreds of thousands more made destitute and homeless.

And two governments, one a military junta and the other a Communist oligarchy, both traditionally suspicious of outside intervention.

But what a contrast between the different ways they are handling their situations.....

I find this editorial untypical and refreshing at the same time of The Morning Call. Most editorials express support for a let big government take care of us and/or blame America first mentality.

I believe that with our warts and all that America is the shining city on the hill for everyone else to admire and emulate.
