SOFIA (ANA-MPA - B. Borisov) Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov on Thursday warned the government in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to retract statements regarding the existence of an ethnic 'Macedonian' minority in Bulgaria's Pirin region or jeopardise the country's prospects of joining the EU.

An announcement released by the Bulgarian presidency's press office on Thursday quotes Parvanov's stern reaction to a statement made by FYROM Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski - who referred to "Macedonians of Vardar, the Aegean and Pirin" - and his warning that Sofia's support for FYROM's EU accession was not "unconditional".

"I am bewildered by the position that has been expressed by the Prime Minister of neighbouring [FYROM]. I see it as unacceptable, as an expression of territorial claims. It is all the more unacceptable as [FYROM] aspires to become a member of the EU, Parvanov said on Thursday, during an official visit to Australia.

Bulgaria's president stressed that Sofia's support for its neighbour's EU entry was largely dependent on that country's behaviour and he urged Skopje to immediately withdraw similar claims.

Parvanov also underlined that Skopje must fulfill the criteria for EU membership, which included that of cultivating good relations with its members.

That's hard to understand for Gruevski. He is just a boxer. What does good relations with economic partners have to do with joining an economic community? Why can't somebody do some boxing in this economic community? Good relations are boring.

Bussiness Week: Macedonia – poor province of Greece

The renowned magazine Business Week made recently on its online edition a blatant error by using a photo detail of FYRMacedonia in an article about Greece.

On 13 October, the magazine published a story about countries with greatest gap between the rich and the poor, ranking Greece in 9th place.

There would have been nothing contentious in the story, hadn’t there been two photographs meant to offer visual description of the situation in Greece.

The first photograph shows the island of Santorini as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Greece, alluding to well-being. Put up next to this photograph is another one, showing a homeless person lying under a billboard of the former Skopje Mayor Trifun Kostovoski, which, according to the authors of the story, was to illustrate the poor side of Greece.

LMAO!!! The worst picture of poverty they could find was Skopje, FYRM's most developed city...

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Virgo

Someone is being headstrong and wilful, and absolutely determined to do what they want. Mercury is retrograde and it's a Full Moon in Cancer with a lunar eclipse all happening tonight! This could lead to some heated discussions and possibly even rows, as you argue the toss back and forth. It might be best to accept that there's very little possibility of reaching an agreement rather than to get locked in a stubborn battle of wills. Besides, you don't want anything to spoil what promises to be a very enjoyable New Year's Eve. Have fun!
