As fellow Americans prepare to join their Jewish friends and neighbors in solemn commemoration of Yom Ha Shoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day , on 8 April, for many, the question that haunts us is this: has Europe fully transcended its past? If the past decade is any indicator, it has not.

The word persistence suggests that anti-semitism in Europe has been handed down from Martin Luther. Modern Europeans may have religious concerns as Luther did but it is also possible that as people learn what Jews are, how Jews think and the things that Jews do that are to the detriment of Europe that anti-semitism is a natural reaction.
