Few takers for engaging Israel

Manama // An article last week by Bahrain's crown prince calling on Arab countries to adopt a new approach to relations with Israel has unleashed a torrent of debate from Manama to Washington, and is testing the ability of Gulf states to leverage their growing economic clout into regional political influence.

It's pathetic that Islam's only unifying factor is hatred and the goal of destroying Israel. Just as bad, is the American dilusion of striking a Mid East peace, simply because our sole interest is Arab oil. But that is no reason for us to ask Israel to carve itself up, to placate a radical Islam. Would we ever consider giving up Texas to placate Mexico? Would we consider returning our Southwest to Spain? And it's outright foolish of our diplomats to ask Israel to return the Golan Heights to Syria, after Syria used the Golan Heights to attack Israel. So why does our Adminisrations continue asking Israel to give up land? Are we afraid of any Mid East country? Or is it that we'll do anything Arab oil?

Israel should not give up any land. The Palestinian state should be in Jordan.
