AUSTRALIA is the third most desirable country to live in, according to an annual United Nations report that looks at wealth, life expectancy and educational levels.
Australia came in behind top-ranking Iceland and Norway in second spot. The top three nations have not changed since last year's report, when Australia was again third but Norway was on top and Iceland second. AIDS-afflicted sub-Saharan African states occupied the lowest rankings of the UN Human Development Index. As expected, rich free-market countries dominate the top places. Behind Iceland, Norway and Australia come Canada and Ireland. But the US has slipped to 12th, from eighth last year.

I hope that's a typo Ben. We've only been a country for 108 years. The First Fleet was only 100 years before that old chap. ;^D |

There have never been indigenous people in Iceland. It was settled by Norwegians in the 9th century, prior to that time, it was uninhabited except for a few Irish monks. The people are a mixture of Norse and Celt, the Icelandic language is descended from the old Norse language. |

Except the other white-hating, chip-on-the-shoulder losers who often infest this forum. One is tempted to ask why they continue to live surrounded by people they hate, but we already know why. You can just feel the seething hate can't you - easy to see they have been scorned by some choosy whitie and never gotten over it. |

This list has a ton of credibility. Yeah, sure:
[1] The weather in ICEland is spectacular & encourages an awesome quality of life [2] ICElandic cuisine, mostly composed of unsightly undercooked lumps of meat with liberal amount of fat stuck to it, brain sausages, reindeer arse pies is highly conducive to quality of living On the contrary, the USA, with by far the highest per capita income in the world, highest GDP, highest standard of living, most advanced technology, and most every kind of terrain & weather one can find in a single country - without having to leave it is #12 on this list. Go figure...!!! Must have been composed by yet another UN employee who is typically moronic, has shitloads of unpaid parking tickets, and dodges paying 'em pleading diplomatic immunity. I say boot the UN out of the US. |

Yankee: "This list has a ton of credibility."
Iceland tops lists compiled by various sources, Forbes magazine, The Economist and the UN. Iceland also has: * the lowest infant mortality in the world. * first-class natal care, the world’s healthiest infants (2 deaths before the age of 5, compared with the United States’ 7 for every 1,000 live births). * Iceland has extensive pre- and post-birth medical care funded by the government, one reason why the country has one of the highest birth rates in Europe. * three months of guaranteed professional leave for each parent at 80 percent of their salaries. * tops the list of 2007/2008 Human Development Index rankings 1. Iceland 2. Norway 3. Australia 4. Canada 5. Ireland 6. Sweden 7. Switzerland 8. Japan 9. Netherlands 10.France Iceland isn't doing too badly without all those Chinese and Indians you keep telling us we can't do without -- |

I think the Vikings killed the monks. |
LOL. Now lets ask the monks if ICEland is the most livable place on Earth. USA is #1. That is why everyone & his uncle (including boatloads of Aussies) want to move here. |
