I'm not Sudie but the answer is simple. The north is muslim and the south is christian. Paritition based on religion, much like pakistan seperated from India.

The north is Arab and Muslim, the south mostly Animist with a Christian minority.
There were 2 civil wars between North and South: from 1955-1972, when the South feared they would be subjected to Northern rule. An agreement was made between the gov. and rebels and the war ended.
Then in 1983, the president at the time enforced Shariah law, and then a rebel group sprung out in the south and fought for independence against the Khartoum gov. This went on for 22 years until the Agreement between Khartoum and the rebels, where elections were to be held in 2010 and a referendum on whether the South Sudanese should seperate from Sudan. 98% voted yes and South Sudan declared independence on 2011.
North Sudan itself has an unstable gov. There were two revolutions (1964 and 1985) and two coup de etats (1969 and 1989). The current regime has been around since 1989.

Two young teenagers have been charged over the brutal assault and robbery of two men in the Fitzroy Gardens.

But police are still searching for the two more people.

Ryan Hickey, 25, and James Fitzpatrick, 30, were robbed and assaulted in two separate attacks on April 14, in which they suffered serious injuries.

Police arrested a 13-year-old boy in Collingwood overnight while another boy, 16, turned himself into Werribee police station early Saturday morning.

The boys have been charged with robbery, intentionally causing serious injury and deception.

Mr. Hickey, whose spine was fractured, alleged his attackers didn't stop even though they'd taken his phone and wallet.

"I was thinking 'just take my wallet and leave'," Mr Hickey said.

"What's the point of keep kicking and punching me?"

Mr. Fitzpatrick suffered a broken wrist.

He told Tom Elliott this afternoon he was repeatedly kicked and stomped on his head.

If you see a Black Dog in the street don't call the dog pound, just kill it.
