Aussies are rude and arrogant.I think it has something to do with their colonial past. They basically are Criminals and bad elements thrown out of The GREAT BRITAIN. So it's obvious if you know anything about Genetics then you will know that if you mix two criminals then a new badasss will be born. And this has been happening for god knows how many generations.Aussies are Insecure and Coward. That's what better describe an AUSSIE.

Firstly, not ALL Australians are arrogant or racist so eli's comment was a bit of a generalisation. Just like any other country, Australia has some people who sadly judge others on the basis of their colour and ethnicity. From my experience, I've met WAY more lovely Australians, than the minority 'racists' who shake their heads at those with different ethnic backgrounds. These people simply don't understand how great Australia is when it is multicultural. These people are also those who make others generalise the whole of Australia as racists. It's quite sad actually that a few thoughtless, selfish, and idiotic people can ruin the name of what can be a very welcoming country to those from other countries.

Australian are very rude and have very little culture. They are blunt and arrogant because they have no concept of decorum. You will never be apart of their group if you don't swear, drink, fart, go for a football team, have an view about any other race. Australians seem to think they are the be all and end all of human existence, yet their history is completely based on criminal back grounds.
.
They did not achieve much in the way of history, there was construction of great monuments, no invention that could be said to change the course of the human race or any kind of achievement that shaped the world as we know it.
.
It is very clear that most of the achievements that Australia has was done by immigrants and even they are poisoned by the Aussie mentality. As help from one of them to assist someone from a non English background to better them selves. Ask them to show you how to fit in or learn the work they do. All you will receive is criticism, put downs or comments like "Its not my responsibility to teach you how to do it". Or what were you taught in your country.
.
Never are you praised for good work thats up to you to do. They are short fused poorly cultured people who have no idea or care about other cultures.
.
We are seeing a new era where there are more ethnic backgrounds then white Australians who are absorbing their mentality. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SEW.

short fused is definately true. they cannot tolerate or even understand why someone would have a thought, opinion, or way other than their own. they get offended quickly Android are quick to offend others. If you don't like it piss off is their attitude. I always thought americans were rude but they are saints compared to aussies. They say most things in rhetorical question form leaving no room for input and people standing around in awkward silnence. socially inept. I wonder if it is because they live on an island and a harsh one at that. The women are the worst but maybe to survive amoung the men.

I used to have this romantic notion that Australians were fun, laid back and interesting, but after meeting a lot of them over the years I have come to a very different conclusion. They are incredibly irreverent, obnoxious, viciously anti-american and annoyingly self-absorbed with their country. I've wondered if it was just bad luck (over and over again). My British pals have told me that it's sort of common knowledge that Australians are, sorry to say, annoying xenophobes.

Their anti-americanism goes way before Bush came around. When they get started talking about the US they are so sneering, smirking and cocky. It's almost visceral. They also like to throw around that the US is a racist country-- an interesting accusation from a country that is 90% white and has an immigration policy to keep it that way. Nice little eugenics experiment down there.

They claim that they dislike Americans because they are so stupid, which is why most of the top 10 universities in the world are in the US. The last time I looked, merely one university in Australia made it into the top 30 list. Harvard isn't in Australia, nor is Yale, or Princeton, U Michigan, U Penn, UVA, Williams, MIT, U Chicago, Northwestern, etc.

Needless to say, when I found out that sneering Julian Assange was Australian, I wasn't surpised at all.

You didn't serve with them in theatres of war, dating back to WW2. If you did, then you'd know why we feel the way we do towards ideological yanks.

Hi, I'm an Aussie from Sydney. I'm well travelled and have lived in many different countries. I wish I could somehow defend my countrymen, but I can't. Australia used to have a beautiful generation of hard working, decent and fairly humble people. I would say this was my grand mothers generation. They would listen to everyone and their opinions were merely that. Sure there were racist elements but all in all it was a friendly place. Then the baby boomers came. The Australian baby boomer is the most arrogant, greediest and most self absorned of all earths baby boomers. And in turn, so are their children. I don't know why this has happened but it happened slowly over time. Australians have deep seated issues. For one, their men are the most emotionally inept people you'll ever meet. The outcome is that they cannot relate to women with class but as a defense mechanism must put such women down whenever possible. The women on the other hand are robotic and insecure. Probably because they weren't treated well by their fathers whislt their mothers were very submissive - a result of a war weary generation of womens daughters that were over indulged after world war two. What these reasonings have culminated in is an aggressive Alpha male type who has high ego, low self esteem and is homophobic and racist. The women have become aggressive and their insecurity fed by a shallow narcicissm and a rough decorum. But they are loyal also, which even though a good trait to have, means they regurgitate and defend everything that comes out of the mans mouth. Racism is an undertone in Australia which is why it is hard to pick up straight away, but it exists. It's an undertone because overt racism is easliy quashed by the media. Therefore, in order to self assert racism is kept unabridged but subtle like a leaking tap. The generation Y is the worst though. It's almost like they've been cultured to think like nazis - it's totally bizarre. Whilst you cannot generalize I'd say about 80% of Aussies are of this ilk - the other 20 are a mixture, while about 5% are cultured and well travelled.

Interesting points. I'm an Australian who returned to Australia last year after seven years in East Asia. I must admit I was quite shocked and disappointed at what I returned to. Being Caucasian in East Asia I was a visible minority and all that entails - the sneers, racist remarks, belittling, but just as often warm, friendly interactions. During this time, I often had idealised visions of back home, it's true that Australia is a multicultural, cosmopolitan place at least in the major centres. My Dad would sometimes caution me on the phone saying things are quite as welcoming here as you perceive them to be.

I understood exactly what he meant when I returned. I thought Australia would have gone over its lingering race issues and xenophobic undertones considering first generation immigrants account for close to 30% of the population. What I found was a more polarised and divisive society than the one I left. I returned with my then Korean girlfriend and we were subject to fairly frequent sneers, rude remarks and glares, I couldn't believe it was happening, this was 2010 for Christ's sake!

Most of my friends and colleagues in East Asia were either Korean, North American or British or Irish, and my once broad Australian accent had modified into a hybrid accent which didn't sound particularly Australian, English, or American. I was often asked where I was from and occasionally heard sneers about being a yank or fob pom (fresh off the boat English person). My clothing tastes had changed whilst in Asia and along with the fact that I didn't like to wear worn, old, tasteless clothes, often heard slurs about my perceived sexuality. And this was in Sydney, the gay capital of the Southern hemisphere!

The longer I've been back, the more I've adjusted or just ignored the dickhead bogans (white trash). Most people I identify with are either tourists, ex-pats, Australians of non-Anglo descent or well-traveled Australians. Unfortunately, ignorance is considered a virtue still for many Anglo-Australians and that trend doesn't seem to be going away anything soon. Mores the shame, the country is beautiful, it's a pity a lot of locals are still truly and proudly insular and narrow-minded.

I love this country, it's so beautiful and has so much to offer. But when i immigrated here 4 years ago, since then I have found it very hard to stay any longer.

Perhaps I'm ''too english'' and respect myself too much, but the pure rude and ignorance I gather from many australians, well I've just about had enough. Sure there some nice aussies but for me it's a handful of people rather then people in general. And the thing is, it gets me down that I feel so strongly about this, but the fact is I do, i find most australians rude.

Australians say there blunt,''don't beat around the bush'' attitude is accepting because ''we get to the point'' but the fact is your still loud and obnoxious! That doesn't prove your point one bit. It's about respecting people, and well truth be said, your more likely to get respect out of an aussie if you just talk them like there the sh i t on your shoe quite frankly.

I agree with bazzer 89 that aussies are still loud and obnoxious.

A lady knocked at our door and asked if we had ordered hotcross buns. Didn't really hear what she said and asked her to repeat, she raised her voice and said "DID YOU"? What a RUDE lady. Still wondering why they behave this way and shouldn't they respect other people?

Hi, I'd just like to say that all this will be very offensive to any Australian who reads it. You cant judge a whole country off a few bad experiences. Sure, there are gonna be some racist idiots, just like anywhere else, but I think the majority of Australians are nice people. I think a lot of you may have misunderstood Aussie humor. It is very different from other countries, you really need to be able to take a joke. As for the part about being loud, I admit most Aussies are quite loud, but this doesnt always mean bad. Have a good day mate :)

You claim that we are self centered? Sure I have met some self centered people, however I guarantee you that there are just as many people like that anywhere you go. Everyone seems to judge a country by those few people who appear to be the "stereotypical" person of that nation.
Why we seem to be Anti-American? That is because we are sick of their ignorance, I have had countless conversations with Americans over the internet. In which all of them had asked me, "Hey, do you own a kangaroo?" I do not hate Americans, nor judge all Americans to be ignorant and self centered; which you have just done to me.
I choose not to judge other countries, for I do not want others to judge mine. By doing this you have only created more hate, I hope you're happy.

Just so you know, the grammar and sentence structured displayed in your paragraph was terrible, you only barely managed to get your view across. This made me laugh, surely a person who barely knows our language is going to have such a negative view. In fact I bet I'm right in saying that at least half of you here are Indians claiming to be hated on, our media dramatises "rasists acts" which definatly occurs in India aswell. If you hate the country so much, move; it's as simple as that and saying that we don't want you in our country is wrong, however upon moving here most Australians would expect you to leave your culture behind. Most of you do not, it is rude; especially when you speak another language in public, you live here you speak this language. It would be expected that an Australian upon moving to any other country would learn the language that is spoken, expecting them to speak English for us is like expecting them to pray to the same god; it's usually not going to happen. So before spreading such narrow-minded views over the internet think it through properly and don't assume you're correct in your opinion; although everyone is entitled to one, some should just be kept to yourself. For those of you who have faced racism, I am sorry for; not every Australian is like that, although after going through that I assume you're probably upset and can see why you may take such views, but by grouping everyone you are being bth rascist and a stereotype.:)

Yes it's true. I live in South Florida and many Australians come to visit (please stop coming). I haven't met one I like....perhaps it's the long plane ride over. They are rude, arrogant & complain to no end. Australia is nothing special....not sure why Americans travel so far to see a place that looks similar to the west coast filled with dickheads. Save your $$ and avoid the country....it's boring from what I've heard by a number of people.

Isn't it clear the person is not native English? Another reason why Australians are arrogant. Lets not stear away from the meat of the message by pointing out grammatical errors. Australians are dickheads. PERIOD Please stay away from the US...we don't want your $$
