Lol this one is very true. I do not mind the corruption by traffic police that much.
Corruption in the normal police in Khaki is the reason why so much seems to be the trouble in India. Government officers are notorious for their corruption but in the recent years some of it has gone down. Like municipalities are still corrupt but power companies are not (privatized, computerized), and Tax Dept is less corrupt due to system overhaul. Big ticket corruption seems to have increased as seen on TV.
Still, most people in India will live out their whole lives with out ever even witnessing a single crime. I have never seen a mugging or robbery or murder anywhere near where I live. Never even seen a gun, or a knife outside a kitchen. Yet the news channels are full of crimes of every hue and screaming how high our crimes rate is or gone up. What is going on. It is almost boring.
Most people watch the news, agree with each other that crime levels are horrendous, and then go out any time of day or night without a second thought to safety. If it gets late my main fear is I wont get convenience back home, not getting mugged. Even in the worst city Delhi only the youth of adjoining punjab, hariyana and UP are a nuisance and molest women, sex perverts, but that is all. And no mugging experiences, certainly no hate bashings ever. That just does not cross anyone's mind in daily life.
Yes cheating is common and if you are not on your guard, just about anybody will cheat you, from the insurance agent to the taxi wala or the traffic cop who will try to fleece you for a thousand bucks for a red light jump when everybody knows the rate is 100 bucks!(in my city). LOL
In australia the police are very well paid, so they cant be bribed, they don,t need money. In india ,indonesai the police are not well paid, so they need to supplement there income, understandable, they have bills and families to feed.

Not so true anymore.

Most police constables have starting salary of around INR 15000 (take home is more with allowances). One can get around OK with that kind of money, even save for a car in 2 or 3 years even with a family of wife and two kids in school. But you can earn 100,000 a month you you are a traffic cop on a busy intersection.

It is greed, and lack of fear of punishment. The system of corruption is already established and running smooth. The money chains are in place already and thus continues easily.

Also police and politicians nexus is there. The overseeing IPS officer has to do the bidding of the politician, in return politicians look the other way. Police reform has been a key demand of civil society activists for long. Even top police officers, like Kiran Bedi and Ved Marwah, who are in the news every day. But politicians are evading and avoiding with all they got! Police Autonomy from government is a must. Then later police modernization.

Australia has probably the most corrupt civil service sector of all developed nations. I not sure if you are on a public relations mission in the Internet to make the public sector and government look good but that's not really helping the real sutuation is it?
I dispute that. What is your source? Just asserting it doesn't make it true.

You keep your location secret- why? I don't believe you know anything about Australia. You are one of those Indians eaten up with jealousy and bitterness because we have built a wonderful country in two hundred years and after two thousand years yours is still a stinking hellhole.

Says she who posts from China :)
Soon as someone posts something you don't agree with, right on queue out come the anti-Australian insults.
I've said many times on here I live in western Queensland.

Sometimes your comments seem quite intelligent, other times you seem like a fool.
Foolish comments like telling someone who asks about Australia that it pretty much runs itself & there's no corruption in the judiciary for instance.
