Australia have always been the parrot of Americans, but the provocative language used by Abbott when there is no need for it is showing him up as one who has no skill in dealing with foreign situations diplomatically....There was absolutely no need to declare to the world that Japan was our closest friend in Asia, especially with the tension in the area between Japan and China etc, and after summoning the Ambassador of China for a please explain, this was not only provocative it was downright idiotic, and puts up walls, he or someone with a good deal more diplomatic nouse, will need to pull down in the future. Abbott is hindering more than helping Australia's relations with Asia, Bishop must be fighting an uphill battle having to work under such a power freak so full of his own importancs, give him a valium and tie him to a chair in the corner to watch the grown ups in action.

I love the way Abbott is destroying diplomacy with Asian nations.

The Abbott Gov don't really understand the issue at hand when accusing China of violating the status quo.
It was Japan and USA that unilaterally declared an Air defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) just about 130 KM from east of Shanghai in 1969. In May this year Japan unilaterally extended it another 23KM to provoke China. China's response was to do the same.
Where is Abbott's sense of justice?

Thank you that was extremely helpful to me in pursuing the correct information in understanding the underlying problems that exist here, and helped me to realise the importance of Australia withdrawing from any provocative and biased talk that could (and in Abbott's case obviously has) cause unnecessary offence to China, we are buying into another one of America's gripes, to our been there, done that, detriment. This could be yet another case of "here we go again."

Power freak in regards to being an bully only when he has the yanks are backing him up with their military and paranoia, and is drawing us in with them. Get Abbott (the little weasel) on his own and using his provocative and ignorant talk against China, and he would be laughed at for Australia's inability to militarily back that up. Abbott should know this is nothing at all to do with us and all to do with America and their issues with China that have now transferred to the ECS in their defense of SK and Japan...These countries need a guidance councilor to sort it out, not some ignorant noong like Abbott, unless the Yanks are champing at the bit for another war that will end up costing us all billions lives ......What are the chances?

Abbot is polarizing Asians, good.

It will result in the polarisation of Europeans.

Excellent. This is just what our European race needs for a rebirth.

Good chess move Abbot.

I'm liking this guy more and more, making the Asians act like monkeys, to expose their ridiculousness to our people.

The media coverage on this issue is very confusing. It's either the journalists are confused themselves or they just want to spread fear.
The confuse their readers that Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is Airspace.

The Guardian say: China sends warplanes into disputed airspace over East China Sea.
China sends fighter jets into disputed air space says the Financial Times.
The make it sounds like WW3 has started.
ADIZ is international airspace. China recognizes that.
All China ask them to do is to identify themselves because with modern jet planes they may enter China's airspace within minutes.
If they don't identify themselves the chance of misunderstanding is there. Now that US and Japan have refuse to recognize China's ADIZ it is likely that China will not recognize their ADIZ and how is that going to make the world any safer.

You would think that all parties would be aware, if they are coming dangerously within China's airspace and understand the relevance of their actions or it might be that China is requesting violation of their airspace information a tad sooner than they need which is causing the problem in any case this is all easily rectified if discussed in the respectful and proper way.
All this talk about who is, and who is not Australia best friend in Asia is just a ridiculous and pompous display by Abbott, who maybe simply be wanting more to impress the yanks than applying any good reason with the need to guard his speech and keep his personal bias and opinions to himself.
My concern is that I don't think Abbott places the importance he should to remain friends with everyone in the Asia pacific region and not to go headlong into a situation by taking sides.
Abbott's ignorance has again ignited criticism of us and put us on the back foot in the region, we are presenting ourselves as a country that uses it's bias with powerful allies and prejudices to provoke and antagonise those that "actually dwell" in the Asia pacific region with us, and who (we have until recently) had a very satisfying and symbiotic relationship with, which has allowed us all to keep build and maintain mutual respect and partnerships, regardless of our difference and this egg manages to damage that in less than two months...it is frustrating to watch from this end so I can imaging what it must seem like to the rest of the region....

Chinese Myth Buster works for the Chinese communist party. Predictably every comment he makes in every post he highlights some US related negativity. Leftard Commie Ahomana hangs on his every word. They probably even read the left wing rags, the Guardian, The Age, and watch SBS and ABC together.

Abbott said the right thing. China needs to STFU and accept that other countries can have different views to them. Japan, South Korea and our other friends in Asia have similar views.

Really ?....(lol)...China is our biggest trading partner , but it is not our most important. All our trading partners are equally important , now matter how big of small....If China thinks it should get special treatment because of it's size , it will be dissappointed.....(lol)

God forbid that anyone should speak against America and Australia and their lies and bullshit that has seen us enter one war on the Yanks say so under the flag of allies, to kill and displace millions of innocents simply on a whim, Who dares correct the kind of agressive bullying of America, Australia and Britain, or ever held them accountable for the lies of WMD's lie and the deaths that led to, Not one country so now these three piggy countries, they can bully the world unchecked, the previously liberal government is the mentor of the leader of this government and their ignorant supporters who show a constantly insane and unreasonable bias to any country or individual opposing the Yanks or Aussies regardless of the truth, cause that would mean you would have to have an open mind on the issue,...stay ignorant stupid! people like you have no other options.
