Ive seen a few movies with Australians in them being depicted pretty bad.
Django has aussie slave owners
Total Recall the remake sets Australia as a british colony poor and vile
The Other Guys- has Aussies robbing Americans

What do you Aussies think when being portrayed like this?
thats entertainment

That people of other countries are depicted as rapists, murderers, KKK members &, omg, CRIMINALS!; lots of movies have Asian and black 'henchmen'... should I avoid these people because of how some of them have been portrayed in movies (fiction)?

I wonder why some folks are up in arms over frequent use of ' that N word ' when (in movies anyway!) most of them call each other other every 2nd second.

When you see Aussie in movies rarely hear oz accents. Russell Crowe Guy Pearce, Naomi Watts and the oz freak in Avatar all sound American or Brit.
Don't think viewing public would tolerate actors not pronouncing consonants.
Did see aussie slave guy in Django though. Pretty rare. Talk American or OZ actor works Sydney subway juggling or miming for handouts.

We get quite a number of good acting roles but I think Peter Jackson has the right idea forcing the hand of Hollywood to invest in the country by creating infrastructure to film there. I don't think we do this to be honest

Humbert is not an American. ;) He's anti-Western shyte-stirrer with a particular focus on dividing US-Aussie relations. Futile cause, but, he's been at it for many, many years.

Educated Aussie accents are classy. Obviously, Aussie actors are very versatile, act in all roles from UK to US. Most Brits and Irish also have to tone down the more interesting aspects of the regional accents, adopting a more understandable version of the Queen's English + some even adopt a more Californian "broadening out" , for success in Hollywood. All depends on the role.

And another thing to add for the Humbert loon:

average Aussies' accents DO sound between UK and US. Some Australians sound British to Americans. Some Australians sound American to British.
Hence, Aussie actor versatility in playing English aristocrats, to American superheroes.

Absolute worst was Crocodile Dundee which convinced the world that we were all a bunch of savages and that Australia was a jungle.
F@#% Paul Hogan And Steve Irwin!

The best is Chopper and WogBoy.

The U.S. media has a hard for Mexico/ans but goes limp for Canada lol

You ever see Shrimp on the barbie with Cheech? Funny movie 80's all the way.

Crocodile dundee was a bad protrayal of Aussies barbaric.

In Dlango they had a actor with a aussie accent which was weird because it takes place in the American South.

You should watch that move with Will Farrel Casa de mi Padre its a funny take on Mexican -American perceptions

Django has Aussie slave drivers.

Slave. Drivers.

Different from slave owners. The only reason the movie even has Aussies in it is because Quentin wanted to work with John Jarrett. It was quite comical to see Aussies (one legit; two fakes) just appear in the middle of American slaveland.

Ray Stevenson from The Other Guys is Irish.

Total Recall - better being a colony than wiped off the face of the earth like where you are.

What a pity your reality is based in entertainment.

Really, I don't care. We've seen enough American movies over the years that showed American's as being anything from the devil incarnate to veritable saints.

I suppose the only thing is, that there will be those ignorant/stupid enough to take that as a representation of what an Australian is like.

It would be like me looking at Paris Hilton or a Kardashian and basing my opinion of what all American women are like, or OJ Simpson and saying all African American men are like that.
Still, there are those with enough degree of self loathing that they need to project that onto something, so tend to fixate on a person or race.

Even in this modern era, I find that in general, Americans have far less 'real' knowledge about Australia than we do about the USA.
The amount of tourists from your country that still come here expecting to see people wearing cork or crocodile teeth hats and 'roos jumping down the street are staggering.

In the end, who cares, when you die the only people that give are damn are close family and friends.
