Australia is great

I travelled there in their summer 2009 and as soon as they heard my accent they did some crazy Oprah-like flip out. It was kinda scary actually. Why do Americans love us so much? It was the same in Britain but British are a little less excitable so they kept the screaming at a low.

I think it's actually embarrassing for America...I don't think Australia is that special, maybe they just like the accent?

Why are Americans so pro-Australia?

They are jealous of our good looks, charm and personality.
But then again for a country that idolisers it's film starrs, maybe you reminded them of someone they saw on the big screen.

Nobody I know, spits on American tourists. My American friends who have visited Australia have all without exception felt very welcome.

I frankly never heard of this, I live in California and we get large numbers of Aussies here. Also Humbert you are off about them being nasty to American tourists, I visited several times and felt welcome. I heard its different for Americans who migrate and live there though.

Plenty of Aussie tourists in California, I never saw anyone treat them differently.

Americans are generally non-assuming and outwardly friendly but they are certainly exceptionally friendly towards Australians. A lot are strangely obsessive. As I said it's embarrassing/awkward because Australia isn't special.

I think it is somewhat because Australians and Americans are kind of similar in that approachable way.

A lot of them do seem to really like us. And when you get to know them, we are very similar. Although the mainstream doesn't agree with their politics, we are basically like a small, socialist kind of America...

That's so, so funny. Just recovering from fits of laughter brought on by your sparkling rapier-like wit. Did you think it up all by yourself?

Impressive, you should do stand up comedy.

Actually, we love most people. Don't know about falling over for your accent because each state has its own accent. I'm in Texas and one might say we have an accent, lol. Good luck trying to understand someone from Boston. So, we all speak English, but have our own twang.
