I think that was in reference to the fact that in the UK, "Asian" is used in reference to Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi - basically from the Indian subcontinent whereas in other countries people tend to associate the word "Asian" in the more oriental sense, eg Japanese, Chinese, Korean ect.

My father made a good point the other day.

He met a man on a train & they started chatting. The man was from England and arrived in Australia in 1973 and my father arrived in Australia in the late 60's as a 16 year old.

My father stated that 'I have been longer in Australia than he has been yet I get called a wog'.

I suggest you check the ' ancestory.com .au' website & see which boat your convict ancestor arrived.

I'm a rare person whose ancestors came here as free settlers, worked all our lives being valuable citizens to this nation in many different fields (even politics).

Immigrants from the 50's & 60's were bought here for a purpose - such as labourers in new factories or in infrastructure programs like the Snowy scheme. There numbers were controlled. They applied in there homeland to come here. Today we are letting them in with no benefit to the nation & drain our resources & wealth. They arrive illegally with no respect for our laws. We have lost control of our borders. Labor & the Greens allow immigration to appease the UN and not to what the nation needs.
