A Melbourne woman has launched a Supreme Court action against a doctor who she claims misdiagnosed her as having inner-ear problems when she was actually seven months pregnant.

Bernadette Chua, November 13, 2012

The woman, now 25, had only two months to prepare for the birth of her child despite visiting her doctor four times in 2009.
“I was pretty distressed,” the woman told the Herald Sun.
“When the ultrasound guy said,‘Congratulations, you’re 29 weeks pregnant’, I just completely flipped out. I only had two months to work out what I was going to do, how I was going to look after him.”
The woman has taken action against Dr Ruth Mitchell for failing to realise she was pregnant.
The damages claim includes cover for medical expenses and the cost of raising the child.
But despite her ordeal, the woman said her three-year-old son had been a “charming” gift.
“From the moment he was born and I held him in my arms, I knew I would not let anything happen to him.”
A statement from the woman’s lawyers, Slater & Gordon, alleges the initial urine test to prove the women was pregnant was negative.
The woman claims Dr Mitchell failed on three more occasions to send the her for a blood test which would have confirmed her pregnancy.
The claim also alleged that the woman missed periods, suffered nausea and dizziness but Dr Mitchell diagnosed the woman with an inner-ear condition and prescribed her with anti-nausea medication.
The mother did a home pregnancy test when she noticed that she was putting on weight.
The defence has not been filed.

It's better to buy your degree online than to study in an Australian University who are selling their degrees to Asians, for a price, teaching them nothing, some stupid assignments and lecture notes and your semester ends in few weeks and you are a graduate, thanks to money hungary cash strapped Australian institutions!! Actually its a dream of every Asian to grab a Australian medical degree, and they pay hell lot of a money to practice in Australia, that's why Dr Teo said he is fed with Australian racism in medical fraternity and Toll poppy syndrome. Once all doctors are Asian than there will be no racism, only dog fight for a better share of the healthcare dollars!! LOL

Q. When we offer to explain a Nymphomaniac's condition, what does she say?

We have a tv show here in america and its about women who give birth and didnt know they were with child.
And this doctor, makes you wonder where she got her license, and the woman, well, I just cant understand how she couldnt have known. But it does happen.

Interesting, I wouldn't have thought someone could have a child growing inside them for that length of time & not know it, but I guess they can.
Wow.

This story is rather bizzare given the woman is 7 months pregnant and didn't feel the developing baby kicking her womb nor suspcted her weight gain was all in the abdomen? I'm guessing she must be morbidly obese. That would explain why the doctor didn't pick up the pregnancy.

Check out the tv show,'Pregnant and Didnt know it', Im not sure but belive it comes on discovery health channel. If you have satillite, not sure if it comes on regular cable. Some of the women were fat, others werent so, and thought the weight gain was something else. Some even gave birth when going to the toilet, not knowing until after the fact that they were with child. LOL

It's because stupid biatches like this can sue doctors that legitimate cases of malpractice are so hard to fight. If this idiot couldn't even work out that she was pregnant (ffs) and the doctor's pregnancy test showed a negative result, then how can it be the doctor's fault.

Besides, what about taking personal responsibility? This woman presumably got herself pregnant - the doctor didn't get her pregnant! And doesn't a law suit have to be commensurate with pain and suffering? What did she actually suffer?

I hate opportunists like this and I hate lawyers.
