Jesus, who the feck thought this guy was a religious nutter who thinks women should be in the home standing by the door with his slippers and his tea ready, just waiting for her man to come home. This is the guy that said he wouldn't let his girls have and abortion, that they would reside at home till they married and that(odd thing for a dad to say) they were hot? He used sexism on a female colleague saying she had sex appeal? and like a good little soldier all she did was giggle and say she was flattered and she wasn't offended....not only did that set women back a hundred years, every female that didn't require Daddy's support was offended at her utter stupidity at allowing such a comment to pass his lips without a smack in the facee.... This guy should be put back in the eighteen century where his patriarchal attitudes belong or the seminary. He also made the comment, why wouldn't church have a place in politics?...because Tony there should be a clear separation between church and state, does he not know this?

Well, it would have been at least two women if Labor voters had not overruled Sophie Mirabella's candidacy. How is that Abbott's fault?

Not that Mirabella is a great loss. With her track record of upsetting all & sundry needlessly she would probably have been more of a liability than an asset anyway.

As for Bronwyn Bishop, she is a seasoned performer. However her sometimes formidable persona might find a ready niche keeping the rabble in line as Speaker. Probably a worthwhile trade-off against the initial gender balance of Abbott's team. She is strong and a stickler for protocol and hopefully will dispense that evenhandedly.

Abbott's team is male dominated in its initial composition. But it might not stay that way. He's under a lot of pressure to address that.

I don't recall saying anything about SM or her possible eletions loss at all especially not mentioning it being Abbotts fault,? on the contrary that was all her!....The problem with Abbott is two fold and that is that he is a misogynist with a patriarchal attitude. He chooses not only to surround himself with males but who heads up a party who are behind the times, someone best tell them they can't go backwards in time, they keep wanting to try...women are held in high regard in most political parties even holding the highest positions...but the liberal numbers do not reflect societies attitude towards women in the workplace and under Abbott never will....

Thunder, two things

first, why should it be mandatory to have ANY women on the team? Best person for the job will mean not a lot of spots for women.

Second, you are very quick to.play the feminism card and say abbott has set back women. WTF do you call what that redheaded disgrace did?

Picture it in reverse. A cabinet made up of 29 women and one man. Now do you see how unbalanced and bigoted Abbot's Cabinet is?

That's right. You didn't. But I did.:)

Like you, I was addressing the article and its headline in my way, just as you had in your way.

I'm not of a mind to challenge that assessment. As you know, I am no fan of Abbott's. He's going to have to turn on a stellar performance before I would either change my view or trust him further than I could spit.

How many men in Parliament compared to women? Would you prefer a few 'token' women?

He should have done what he vowed to do and go to the election with the original party, he didn't there would have been three or more women if he had kept his vow, and you wonder why he didn't make it as a priest?

All those he dumped, if his word could be counted on....it can't be...that would have seen another three or more women right there.

How would that compare with the previous government where men were men, and so were half the women?

I absolutely agree with that, but it wouldn't be the first time a misogynistic patriarchal society negated a smart women who had worked harder and was more suited for the role, for a man, even if they were more stupid which appears the case here.

Now we're getting a foretaste of Abbott's Modus Operandi ... "It's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission".:)

Shame Shame Shame, Abbot needs to listen to the tree huggers and Barney the Dinosaur lovers.
We need 1 black, 1 brown one, a yellow, 1 in glasses, a disabled would be nice.
How dare Abbot appoint the best people for the job - he is a disgrace !!!!!!!
