I would rate cities in NZ and Aus like this

1) Sydney
2) Auckland
3) Brisbane
4) Melbourne
5) Perth
6) Adelaide

Having lived in four of them and been to all of them that's opinion anyway.

Brisbane is certainly improving its reputation. Australian cities are generally amongst the world's best.

Yeah nah, it's a pleasant enough place to live if you can handle the clusterfuk that is it's peak hour traffic, but cultural capital it aint.. why would anyone bother pretending it was? Brisbane is an economic, industrial hub, that offers sustainance to the those willing to accept it for what it is. An overgrown port town.

Australia doesn't have any culture of its own... its that simple.
That's why multiculturalism just can't work in Australia... there's too many morons who suffer from an inferiority complex and are inevitably bitter to countries which actually have culture and traditions of their own.

I visited Melbourne and Brisbane 6 years ago, loved Brisbane, did not like Melbourne. The reason? The weather, cold and rainy, it was dreary but on the positive I met a pretty lass over there. It reminded me of Seattle, which has the highest suicide rate in the US.

I saw Sydney two years later, I thought Sydney was easily the most beautiful Australian city by far, good weather, great beaches. Although expensive its the best city in Australia.

All representative - beer bellies and tall tales. Although I love reading the NT News - great for a laugh.
