I Just came back from American Samoa with embarrasement.
It has been more than 15yrs since I've been there. When I first arrived there i notice the Airport hasn't changed much. The roads!!! Lets just say, its sucks. Lots of potholes or a least we call it here in California. You could probably fall in it, its so big.
TRASH TRASH TRASH and TRASH!!!!There are trash on the side of roads front of buildings etc...Do my people know how to use the trash cans? Dont we want more tourist attractions? Can we make Samoa beautiful like it should? I think it all starts from the Top, The American Samoa government. Where is all of Uncle Sam's money going too. Is in it suppose to help with some of these problems?

yes sad to say but American Samoa is a sight for sore eyes. what use to be a beautiful island is now reminding me of what Barstow is known as out here in California, nothing but drug addicts, trash, and trailers come out of Barstow. But in Am. Samoa, the trailers would be the containers that are just parked out in front of businesses, homes, and whatever else. Its the governor who needs to take charge of this. Props to governor Lutali's wife who made an effort back then to beautify Am. Samoa. But they dropped the ball after she left and now its just plain UGLY.

When are we going to get along. Where is the love that our Father in Heaven scarified for you and me. It seems that the people that runs the government with selfishness and ignorant about alot of stuff are the same people was raised by their family the same way which is IGNORANT. They throw away a lot of money on traveling to and from the state, they put their kids in better scool and the rest of the islands look like s----.They take vacation to the State while the rest of families in Samoa are suffering to find the next meal for the family. I wish I win the lottery, so I can fix up my whole island of American Samoa. Build a bridge between Fagatogo Bay and Aua Bay. Build new houses for my people, build a new airport, making four lanes from Aua to Tafuna or whereever. And fire the governor and his people and especially all the KULUKU in the government. Thanks.

The environmental issues within American Samoa are a concern and if anything that needs to be done is the changing of our peoples attitudes. Those concerned about the issues should get proactive and support the usos who be supporting and campainging to save Utulei Beach from having McDonalds built there.
I was back home in American Samoa for Flag day and came across a group, who are campaigning for McDonalds not to be built there, called 'Common Cause'.
If any of you from 'Common Cause' read this can please hook me up with a newsletter from you, as I am keen to support you guys.
American Samoa does not need another building to clutter up our sea side, what we need are more groups that are conscious of the environment and the implications that stupid parasitical companies(That is another issue I would like to address)like McDonalds will do to our people and Island of American Samoa.

I agree, the people of Am, Samoa need to do something about the Island to be more attractive, I heard there are plenty empty containers line up way to high at Fagatogo dock, those need to be remove from there. The whole problem start from the top people of the government, what happen to money, where that money went?

The other thing is the village thay need to there part of cleaning up there own village,on saturday they have to come together and do the cleaning, not every sat, twice a month.

Yes the people in the villages should take responsibility for the cleaning up of their village.

Maybe the Government should enforce fines on those who do litter.

On a community level, the people need to be made aware of what they have now and what they can do to preserve the precious land. As their are other issues of living on the island and the effect economic development is having on the actual land and waterways.

I haven't been to American Samoa since I was 4 years of age.I have been saving money to revisit my birth right.I am saddened to hear that Samoa has been polluted with the mainland way of life.I have been looking forward to visit family and enjoy a untainted island and way of life!It seems though, that our people are picking up bad outside habits and are slowly killing off our HOMELAND and TRADITIONS little by little. The government officials of Am.Samoa what are they doing? What ever happened to SAMOAN PRIDE?
I am anxious to see for myself, what has happened to our ISLAND.

Well American Samoa is a part of Samoa and of course we are all Samoans. Well we need to do something in order to protect our lands and our courtry/ies from all these different types of pollution.

We are the future leaders of our country/ies, so let's educate ourselves well enough and have brighter ideas and knowledge for our people on the islands.

But keep in minds that we have to treasure our culture and value our traditions. I am proud to be a Samoan. Maintain our PRIDE.

Isn't that personal? Suggest other various strategies to be used for the said concern.

I am very glad McDonalds have decided to build their 2nd restaurant at Utulei Beach. I've always wanted to buy myself a burger and fries sometimes late at night, but find Tafuna very far to drive. At first I was oppose to the Idea of McDonald's being built on Utulei Beach, but McDonald in Tafuna has proven they can be an environmentally friendly business. They have a very clean area and friendly workers too.

The McDonalds issue? Has anyone been paying attention to the news and all the health issues concerning fast foods & especially McDonalds. My beautiful island people, who cares about the location, these places just shouldn't be there period. I work in the healthcare area and am slowly seeing a rise in Samoans coming in for various health issues mostly for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. And, this is Samoans of all age ranges not just the older folks. Those greasy burgers and french fries will eventually take a toll on you. Just wanted to bring up another view point to this issue. Our good old taro, bananas and fish sound good to me anytime.

Ok People. All of us have a little bit Samoan Blood in us. Instead of making comments toward our island, where our ancestor are from, why don't we fix the problem. Complaints does not make it clean. Lend a helping hand. Western Samoa and American Samoa are two different names and islands but we are one in blood. Not all the people in American Samoa are American Samoa. If you visit the villages, than that is a different story. Public places are where all the people goes to shop, eat, or just to hang out. There are hardly any 100% Samoan left in us. We are all mixed people from the island. I was born and raise in American Samoa but underneath all that, I got chinese, germany, and Samoan ( western and american samoan) blood mixed in my bloodline. So please STOP! STOP! STOP!...Be part of the solution not the Problem. Think before you post your comment. The whole world is reading all your comments. So be a part and be proud of who you are. "SAMOAN"....HELLO!.. ...PEOPLE FROM THE SUN.

Hey, maybe next time when u visit Samoa why don't u start picking up trash and do something about the garbage that had bothered by ur visit. Talk is cheap...u really think it's that easy for everybody to take ORDER from the government no matter what the issue is? We can complain and complain about the TRASH and POTHOLES and what not, but do u really believe the government gives a damn about it. These days are not our 15 or 20 something years ago. Things change, people change, and so is the economy change. Yes everything is $$$, but it takes only one person to make a difference.(sort of speach) So next time when u visit Samoa, pick up a trash and get families, friends, neighbors to involved like we called in AMERICA the COMMUNITY. In that way if the government keeps the tax money for who knows what they do with it, then the people of Samoa can pitch in and raised the $$$ and DO something about the clean up. And by the way, Samoa is NOT the only place with these problems. Anywhere u go in this world is just the same...trash, potholes, violence, etc...So do something about it. And off course Samoa will always be our HOME no matter where in the world we live. But if everybody works together to help one another it does make a huge difference. And I personally DON'T see any embarrasement in that matter! FA'AFETAI.

Uhh, you make it seem like this is something new. Samoans have had these health problems way before we were born and it will be the same well after we're gone.
Let the Islanders get what they want. That is why Samoans that first step foot in the mainland blow up so fast, being deprived of the American meal...Big Mac & fries, they indulge themselves excessively at the first chance.
A. Samoa is a territory of the US, why should they live a primitive life?

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Cancer

If you thought yesterday was fraught with tension the temperature rises a few notches again today, as Mars turns retro in your house of finances and values. What's eating you? Maybe you're annoyed because your spare time is being eroded by duties that are weighing heavily on your shoulders. You might also be miffed by the flippant attitude of a certain person who you think should be taking life a lot more seriously. Calm down or you'll blow a gasket.
