Full story: The Westside Gazette

Watching a local television program recently, I heard Spike Lee express his belief that Queen Cleopatra of Egypt was Black.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I was not aware of all the issues but find your analysis and statements believable.

The Black community is obscessed with the race of Cleopatra, in my opinion, for one reason: They want to make a black connection to the current genetic makeup of Europe. If Cleopatra was black then everyone who came in contact with Greek and Romans in ancient Egypt was definately black, thereby contributing their intellect and genes to European culture. In other words, the achievements of Europe are rooted in black intellect and culture. Europeans would owe eveything to black Africa. Blacks totally dismiss the fact that Cuacasians occupied the Middle East for thousands of years. Note the lack of prognathism in many of the Egyptian rulers. True black Africans (Nubians) ruled Egypt for about 100 years at the end of the empire when it was in total decline.

I definitely do not think cleopatra was pure black NOR pure white. Infact cleopatra's father was greek and his wife an african queen. NOW anyone with logic and common sense can clearly see that these two combinations cannot produce a white person - and you're telling me she was white arn't you.... well i know your ancestors lied to us africans about our history which is most lost but please did they lie to you too... infact the true egyptian queens and kings of kemet(egypt - black land) were all africans....yes, if anyone opposes this please feel free to tell me 1)why and who blew off the sphinx facial features - which depicted african features... and if it was indeed an black african, why would any other race worship it? 2)i recommend you go to egypt and take a look at the interior of pyramids and the museum- put your eyes on any pharoh's statue - what color is his skin - black of course - and oh yeah fella they blew off the nose and lips of some 2.. hey they truth is simple...the egyptians thought the greeks - which many of them confessed to IN RECORD. therefore all greeks later inventions and ideas were based on egypt thought!

Well, I guess we Europeans are so sneaky we stole every idea from the Egyptians and then were able to wipe out all memory of it from the African brain, including those that stayed in Africa.

I guess they will soon open a 5000 year old tomb in Africa that contains models of the telephone, airplanes, space suits, television, radios, spaghetti and meatballs, etc. etc. etc.

Ham is synonymous Egypt. The land of Ham - Canaan.

We were taught here in America that Egypt was not a part of Africa but it is - it is a very important part of Africa.

So this should tell you what the skin color was.

Europe means darkness. For a long time there was a dark mist that covered the ground in England. It is England's history that teaches it had to come out of the dark ages.

We covered up the history of the blacks to make ourselves look good during slavery, okay I admit it. Now lets move forward.

The founder of Egypt was Menes, a black, plain and simple.

The longer we try to cover it up, the worse it makes us look.

Hello everyone, Cleopatra well for a start there was seven Cleopatras, the one everyone argues about was the last one Cleopatra VII born 69BC in Alexandria. Arguing what color she was just goes to show how far humanity has sunk, back then there wasn't such a big thing about color as the Greeks held the Egyptians in very high esteem, look at various greek writers for examples. She was more than likely a combination of African, European and Middle Eastern as Alexander encouraged the mixing of his troops with all the lands they conquered. This was a way of making sure his men and the conquered nations bonded so the empire which he started would be cohesive and not prone to uprisings.

The only reason the myth that the Egyptians are Caucasians was started because Jean-François Champollion decipered the hieorglpys giving people the chance to see just how influential the egyptians were. This is why Greece had its centre of learning in Egypt, the place where Cleopatra was born, its also why the only thing Greek about Alexandria was the language its citizens spoke, all the artifacts dug up are in the Egyptian style and the way Cleopatra VII dressed, used oils and make-up was Egyptian. How many other empires have their centre of learning on foreign soil, in my country England our centre of learning was always in Oxford and Cambridge even when we had a massive empire.

The Greeks based most of their culture on the Egyptians, Rome based most of its culture on the Greeks, Northern Europe based most of its culture on the Romans and America based most of its culture on the Northern Europeans this is why Egypt has been altered to give it a more Middle Eastern and European appearance belittling its African multi-cultural heritage. Couldn't fit this in the previous post but here is a quote from Herodotus a Greek Historian who saw Egypt first hand. This is regarding a king named Sesostris we he conquered many tribes in the Middle East and Europe, simular to Alexander.

'In this way he traversed the whole continent of Asia, whence he passed on into Europe, and made himself master of Scythia and of Thrace, beyond which countries I do not think that his army extended its march. For thus far the pillars which he erected are still visible, but in the remoter regions they are no longer found. Returning to Egypt from Thrace, he came, on his way, to the banks of the river Phasis. Here I cannot say with any certainty what took place. Either he of his own accord detached a body of troops from his main army and left them to colonise the country, or else a certain number of his soldiers, wearied with their long wanderings, deserted, and established themselves on the banks of this stream.

There can be no doubt that the Colchians are an Egyptian race. Before I heard any mention of the fact from others, I had remarked it myself. After the thought had struck me, I made inquiries on the subject both in Colchis and in Egypt, and I found that the Colchians had a more distinct recollection of the Egyptians, than the Egyptians had of them. Still the Egyptians said that they believed the Colchians to be descended from the army of Sesostris. My own conjectures were founded, first, on the fact that they are black-skinned and have woolly hair, which certainly amounts to but little, since several other nations are so too; but further and more especially, on the circumstance that the Colchians, the Egyptians, and the Ethiopians, are the only nations who have practised circumcision from the earliest times.

The Phoenicians and the Syrians of Palestine themselves confess that they learnt the custom of the Egyptians; and the Syrians who dwell about the rivers Thermodon and Parthenius, as well as their neighbours the Macronians, say that they have recently adopted it from the Colchians. Now these are the only nations who use circumcision, and it is plain that they all imitate herein the Egyptians. With respect to the Ethiopians, indeed, I cannot decide whether they learnt the practice of the Egyptians, or the Egyptians of them it is undoubtedly of very ancient date in Ethiopia but that the others derived their knowledge of it from Egypt is clear to me from the fact that the Phoenicians, when they come to have commerce with the Greeks, cease to follow the Egyptians in this custom, and allow their children to remain uncircumcised'.

So its quite unrealistic to think Ancient Egypt and Africa didn't influence Europe, that only Europeans bought culture and civilisation to Africa. Empires tend to travel and Egypt predates any major empire in Europe, its also regarded as the first nation on the planet. Like most empires it was quite snobbish about other cultures as this Herodotus quote shows.

'The Egyptians are averse to adopt Greek customs, or, in a word, those of any other nation. This feeling is almost universal among them'. You can read the full transcript on the link above.

Egypt was a combination of mainly African, Middle Eastern, Asian and European more so in the latter stages, ironically it was the Persians, Greeks and Romans who contributed most to Egypts decline mainly due to greed for gold, food and its outstanding wealth of knowledge. The west is far more multi-cultural then its given credit for, now lets stop this petty hate please and remember what can be achieved if we all work together:)

Tackling ancient egypts race is now an embarrassing topic. Recent discoveries that other black civilizations preceded or pararelled hakaptah(ancient Egypt)are indubitable.
The olmec Negro civilization of Yucatan in Mexico, Canaanite-Phoenicia, dravidain(Harrapa and mohenjo dero of ancient India),sumeria of Mesopotamia, pre hellen Greece(dogons), and all of north Africa before invaders from Arabia Asia and Europe-All these stunning facts revealed by DNA, archeology, etymology and history have finally corroborated darwins theory of social history(All species of similar features have a common origin)
The idea that black ancients all over Europe and Asia were not African in origin was finally laid to rest. Like all the stunned European archeologists, Europe has to accept that Africans traversed the globe long before history was recorded as ‘the ancient sea kings’ with their origins in the Nile.

I think Cleopatra was mixed with Mac., Egyptian whatever the race was back then for whites (not an insult). For one thing she ruled like a "BLACK" leader strong determined and very educated. Many people believe blacks were stupid, idiotic, dumb, retarded but really or roots ruled the early life. Yes, white people had their own empire and they might have conquered more than many. The Ptolemy Dynasty did keep their Mac. blood through their veins, but there has been signs that one of the Ptolemies (i dunno which one) could've had a child or children with an Egyptian queen. If so this could've lead to Cleopatra beign a mixed race woman. There's absoultly nothing wrong with this. I'm mixed race myself.(My roots had alot of frenchmen in them, yes i am black) and these are the reasons i looked up to Cleopatra as a black leader becuase race didnt matter to her. She did it all sacrificing all she had for her country. This is a reason blacks and whites claim Cleopatra as their race because of the pride she bought to her legend.
