Article 3
No State Party shall expel, return ("refouler") or extradite a person to another State where there are substantial grounds for believing that he would be in danger of being subjected to torture.

Article 4

Each State Party shall make these offences punishable by appropriate penalties which take into account their grave nature.

I'm fine with us snubbing our nose at the United Nations. We sponsored it anyway. We've shown on several occasions that we simply don't need their support as a whole. If we need something, we can always go to the individual nations. As long as we keep a seat on the security council, along with the British, then the UN serves it's purpose to us. And as far as your empire theory goes, I dont think I'll be alive to notify any of my descendants. That day is too far into the unforeseen future. IF you knew when the great US empire was going to perish, then that would make you more intelligent than the best historians and political scientists. I doubt that. And for a fact, the United Nations has been bypassed by the United States on more issues than I can count. Our policy with the UN is usually "We'll ask first, then do it anyway with or without you."

I just happen to disagree. The world players are much different than they were in the past. I dont think it's as simple as stating that since the US in the most powerful nation in the world we are certainly doomed to fail. Different rules usually equate to a different outcome.
