Letters: Access road sale scrutiny

Thanks to Jim Johnson for his reporting in the Nov. 6 paper about impending talks between county negotiators and Santa Monica-based Bollenbacher & Kelton Inc., to discuss the purchase of about 3 acres for an access road through Toro Park.

I wanted to let you and everyone know how ashamed I am of our Rep. Sam Farr, who is steadfastly supporting the nefarious efforts of the Obama administration to pass HR 3962, the Unaffordable Health Care for America Act.

HR 3962 will worsen the status quo, where the government will have all the power and really do nothing in return to help the people.

Sam the scam can always be counted on to perform like a good little comrade for nancy Pelosi. Any program that will increase government spending, increase government intrusion into our lives, raise our taxes and reduce our freedom and liberty is irresistible to them. They won’t rest until all control over the American subjects as well as any of their wealth is consolidated under them.

Whatever the opinion of the "gopher", Rep. Farr is doing what the overwhelming majority of his constituents want him to do. that's why he gets elected time after time and that's what he is supposed to do. If you want a congressman that does what you want him to do you'll have to convince the rest of us to agree with your point of view or move to a district of which the majority holds your point of view. To want an elected official to refuse to do what those who elect him want him to do is kind of unAmerican, don't you think?

And you so thoroughly explain yourself. Simply stating that he isn't doing what you want him to do doesn't count for much. I expect if Mr. Farr was not acting in accordance with the US Constitution his Republican counterparts in the House would say something about it. If you have a case, make it, take it to court. There is no lack of conservative lawyers in the state and I'm sure one of them would be glad to have a go at Mr. Farr. But I think what you want is for Mr. Farr and the country to act in accordance with your particular political beliefs. Unfortunately this is representative democracy and those who elected Mr. Farr like what he's doing. The government doesn't always do what i want either, but that's life in a free and democratic society.
