Definitely not very wise fiscal policys when 55% of your budget relies on foreign aid...we need more thinkers in parliament who can try and create job opportunities and increased revenue, instead of relying on handouts from foreign countries....need to be more self reliant....time to get some new elected officials in office.

i agree with you raider.. i cant believe they let it pass through parliament.. maybe gov too scared to take on a tighter budget especially with elections looming lol. you right, we need to use the little we have and rely on that, if aid comes it comes then lets use it to boost our economy. right now i reckon its unsustainable. i mean in real life we have to spend what we have, but in this imaginary world this budget in, we increase spending and pray the tax payers from other countries will let their governments pay the rest :/ someone needs to make the hard decisions for tonga

The Tonga government’s biggest-ever budget estimate of T$357.6 million for the 2013-14 financial-year was unanimously passed by parliament yesterday evening, 27 June. From the House by Pesi Fonua. That is nearly $400 per head of population, I wonder where the money is coming from? Those who can afford to pay income tAX refused to pay it

Our govt. doesn't help our people. They sit on their hands and spent money they don't have instead of helping the people out. Example: tell the farmers to raise tomatoes, pepper, corn or whatever than ship it over seas to the super maker to sell. The poor farmer does not have excess to that kind of market. If he cannot sell his produce in Talamahu he's out of luck. The oriental countries come and steal our fish with their mordern fishing equipments and our fishermen go hungry because they cannot compete. Do you know that tuna (valu) is sold for $4,000 an ounce? The govt. should help our fishermen out like make it easy for him to get a boat, net etc. on a loan. They gave themselves a loan for millions why not the poor fishermen and farmers.

I think Government should help these industries, but I don't think subsidies is the answer. But anyways I think as long as people bring together their ideas together its good. Thats probably the most important thing to come out of all these discussions.

Our leaders live with Micky mouse and friends in the fantasy world. They do not know realty from fiction. How can they approved a stupid budget like this? They came up with $357.6 million and they know they cannot pay for it. They are hopping someone out there will pay for it (donation) like micky mouse. Are you kidding me? Is this the way to run a govt? They will bankrupt the govt. the way they are going. I'm sorry Micky mouse I know you could do a better job run the govt. than these clowns.

Mr Aloho said he will spent half a millions to investigate one branch of govt. who returned $10,000 last year instead of three million as it did years past. The way I see it there is nothing to investigate. He should go clean house and start over and put some honest people in charge. Why does it take half a million to investigate? This is the kind of govt. waste I'm talking about. If we don't have an honest head of govt. the rest will be corrupted. This cycle will go on and on until we find ourselves in the point of no return.

Born.77 .... My point exactly Bro. Our leaders came up with this so call budget. It is not a budget. A budget is an estimation of future expenditure and income base on past performance. Mr Aloho did not come up with $357.6 million base on past performance. I have no clue how he end up with this numbers. He is not suppose to spent more than our income, we did. This is how we are going to bankrupt the country. He expect somebody else to pay for his budget (donation) That is a fantasy like Micky mouse. Wishful thinking. He should deal with facts not fantasy. We should operate our govt. within our means.
