Hindu devotees plan for mass animal sacrifice in Nepal invites mass criticism

Bariyapur , Nov.4 : Plans by Hindu devotees to sacrifice over 500,000 animals during a two-day festival in Nepal this month has angered animal rights activists, who are demanding that the 300-year-old ritual to be banned.

where does your meat come from? if the killing of animal for your meat is done in hidden corporate slaughter houses, then it's somehow justified? but not out in the open as in this ritualistic ceremony. what an height of hypocrisy! you should see the gory killing if you want to eat meat. don't blame a religion for it.

i just came back from nepal and this festival (dasain) is for most of the people the only time they eat meat the whole year. I cant imagine how many animals are consumed by other countries everyday but i'm sure its over 500'000.
its all well and good to blame other nations and religions for one thing or another but until you understand it. Those animals wouldn't have been bred if it wasn't for the festival.

On Thanksgiving day alone ~640,000 dead turkey's will be served in US (and not even counting the other animals parts like ham, beef, chicken on table). So I can't fathom the hypocrisy of the western media while reporting this Nepalese custom where these poor people get to eat meat only on this day. In US, MILLIONS of animals die in the slaughterhouses for daily and pointless consumption of meat. Shame !

Here's the world-map of consumption of meat in the world: India and Nepal do not even figure in the map. If anything, people should be reporting the over consumption in US and Mongolia.

erm..why aren't any international body commenting on the ritual sacrifice during the muslim haj?try googling for the haj, especially in Mekah.thousands of camels, cows, buffaloes, & goats are ritually sacrificed on that day.
