From what i saw, only the poorest and those with little or no education visit this area or Mexico/US. The native business man on and off main st., are bandits, and I mean ALL of them, dentist have hurt so many Americans. Biggest loser/complaint goes to a dentist by the name of Omar Flores. He is not a dentist folks, he is a fake.

we go to nuevo progresso twice a month, I have my dentist there and have sent a total of 18 people, Dr. Leoncio l. Olivares martines. he is great and saved me lots of money. as they say eat, drink and be merry. mind your P's & Q's, treat them right, go eat at arriba's bar and grill, dance eat, and drink. nice clean, reasonable prices, good friendly people, it will open againg first week of Oct.2012, you don't have to wait for a drink the waiters, know what you drink and will meet lots of friendly people from out of states. we have been going there since before you needed passports. planning another trip this weekend. visit red Snapper #2 upstairs and listed to and dance to the music of Charlie Reyes, he is great. place is clean, food is good, beer is COLD. then if you can still walk to to Jessica's Jessica Carter. Beer is a little higher. Can't wait to go back.

ab-so-lu-t-ly - it's a great place to hang out - literally - not locked inside a pub like here in the US.

I am German and the Europeans have great beer gardens and they know how to live outdoors.

I am too having my Dentist over there and I've got to go often for an appointment.

you all should be getting a pass port because maybe the day will come when you all have to flee your own country because the government will lock up everybody who is open minded and who will not agree any longer with all that b.s. that's going on over here.

I'll lift a beer to the sun for you all

No matter where you go....anywhere nowadays can be dangerous if u happen to be there at the wrong day/wrong time. Count your blessings each day...and avoid areas that are known to be hotspots for violence. Mexico, unfortunately, gotten a negative stigma in the past couple of years. It'll take a miracle before things ever go back to the way they used to be.

There has been only one shooting EVER in Nuevo Progresso, and the response, with troops, was almost immediate, even though the shooting was in July, when the winter Texans who support this town were mostly back up north.

Hard to picture someone who's lower legislative house is filled with teabaggers and other misogynists talking about the ethics of another country.

Yes, I always feel I'm in a very safe place when armed soldiers are all around and tanks and military humvees are in the streets.
Mexicans don't care about the safety of American tourists, they care about the money they might not get. Everything in Mexico is about money and greed.
Sounds like Corporations in the US. They don't care about you or me just the money the can get from You,me and our Government!

I am bagging you not to go to Dr.Luis Guerrero. About two years ago I went to him to have a couple of molars crowned. I'd ordered and paid for two gold crowns. But not only what I'd gotten were one gold crown and one silver colored metal crown which was tainted golden, and I'd noticed that about two weeks later when the golden color came off of that crown. You can imagine I went back to see him right away to have that crown replace. The drilling off of the metal has caused bad contamination in my gums and mouth. This office is a co-op of more Dentists and there is no name on the invoice you'll get. His helper who did the measuring never wore gloves.

DON'T go there!!! I can recommend strongly Dr. CANALES Dentistry just 100 yards ahead on the left side of the road. They are correct and clean!!!!!

I live in Weslaco TX and Michigan. One of the Winter Texans. We have gone to New Progresso many times over the last two winters. It is so close we go down just to buy nopalitos, garlic, have a delicious lunch at Serratos and just enjoy. We have always found the people to be friendly and hospitable. I love how the men help you find a parking place and get in and out of traffic. I am physically handicapped - have a very difficult time walking with a cane or a walker. Let me tell you, I think the Mexican men are such gentlemen. They have helped me cross the street and told me where to get the best tacos, blouses for my sister-in-law, where to get a good deal on new glasses, whatever I am looking for. I do not speak Spanish, but they don't treat me badly because of it. They are very patient and helpful, I don't spend a lot of money, but have a lovely day and enjoy all the musicians. The little children are adorable, I only wish everyone could appreciate that when treated well, most people are just pleased to see you and help you find what you need.
I have always felt safe as in any city, come home before it gets late because I hate to drive after dark.

live in donna tx. 5 mos each yr for past 12 yrs. had 2 bridges and 23 caps done by Edward Flores 6 yrs ago , no problems. people are great. many times winter texans are rude to the vendors and consider it funny to waste their time with no intention of buying just to see how much they can chisel the seller down. how would we accept that???we have always respected the people and in turn they have respected us. great place to relax have lunch and of course u may enjoy a drink or two.
good music to enjoy or dance to. Come on down but treat people as u would like to be treated

I am interested in visiting Texas Dentist Clinic with Dr. Dominga Cortez Garcia.
Who has gone to her?
Do not go to Texas dental clinic. Myhusband was there and she cut his teeth down and ruined his job. She left expose nerves and it cost him thousands to get redone what she did in two hours "

I moved to the Texas border town of Weslaco from Maryland in 1976 and immediately fell in love with Mexico, especially Nuevo Progresso. There have been several times over the years when you were warned to stay out of Mexico for one reason or another. I did not let the warnings discourage me and I have never had a moments trouble.
I feel safer walking the streets there at night than I would in one of our american cities. The locals are kind & helpful. I had a problem with my vehicle on one occasion and a gentleman who I could not converse with fixed my problem and refused to take the money I offered him. Of course there are always a few bad apples on every tree, so that isn't to say a problem could not arise but I believe as long as you treat folks the way you like to be treated, you won't have any problems.
In addition to casual shopping trips, on many occasions I have partied there until the wee hours and never had a problem walking the street back to my car and driving home. So if you are not an indignant troublemaker and you are not involved involved in illegalities... relax and count on having a great time in Nuevo Progresso.
time in Nuevo Progresso.

What kind of an ignoramus are you Rudy?
Since about two years all Americans need a Passport
in order to leave/re-enter the USA. No matter were you go. To apply for a Passport you would have to go to a nearby Post Office to get the application form and all the info about what you need to do.
Have fun.
