Are you sure the Japs never did the same to the Viets?

Of course, we know many top families in south Vietnam benefited tremendously by collaborating with the Japs during WW2.

What about the other poor souls in Vietnam?

The Chinese Communist Party soldiers ran away from the Japanese and did not fight them at all through most of the occupation in WWII.. That is de facto collaboration.

"the Communists generally held back from major fighting with the Japanese....they were planning for the renewed civil war after the Japanese were defeated."

So, the CCP left the real fighting to the Nationalists and Allies, and left China wide open to Japan. As always: CCP first, then Moscow, China last.

...Not as I know about. When Japanese Forces occupied VN, it didn't take long before they surrendered to Allied Forces. In the mean time, VietMinh of VCP already served the nation before Japanese came....

The Chinese have overwhelming air superiority (numbers) over the Japanese and the USA combined. Eight aircraft would have been nowhere near enough to do the job if China had been doing anything more agressive than yanking their chain.

But Japan is right to feel guilty and nervous because if the Chinese do come then I would predict that it's going to be payback time.

We live in interesting times! Perhaps the fear generated comments both here on Topix and from Washington and Tokyo have that worry!

So, all we have to determine is "what is in the interests of the survival of the CCP?". They will give up half of China to save the regime. Predictable and vulnerable. Japan will thus have an easy time of it, and outmaneuver China diplomatically and cripple it militarily in weeks. Like in 1895.
