This is fine tribute to those two men who gave their lives. I have know personally 1st Sgt Mercardante and the respect that was paid as the two coffins were flown out is so indicative of the way he lived life. Thank you, it has helped those of us who knew and loved him to know that those present sent them away with the honor he deserves.

Love Defined

What is love, but an emotion,
So strong and so pure,
That nurtured and shared with another
All tests it will endure?

What is love, but a force
To bring the mighty low,
With the strength to shame the mountains
And halt time’s ceaseless flow?

What is love, but a triumph,
A glorious goal attained,
The union of two souls, two hearts
A bond the angels have ordained?

What is love, but a champion,
To cast the tyrant from his throne,
And raise the flag of truth and peace,
And fear of death o’erthrow?

What is love, but a beacon,
To guide the wayward heart,
A blazing light upon the shoals
That dash cherished dreams apart?

And what is love, but forever,
Eternal and sincere,
A flame that through wax and wane
Will outlive life’s brief years?

So I’ll tell it on the mountaintops,
In all places high and low,
That love for you is my reason to be,
And will never break or bow.

My son, TJ is a SAW Gunner for the 1/6 B Company with the 24th MEU and I pray everyday for him and ALL those with him for their safety and well being. I like to think now they have two Marine angels that will be watching over them as they continue to carry out their mission.
Thank you for the information on how they were both honored, I was in tears with the vision you described as if I were there in person. It is nice to know that they were so well cared for and respected like that, I will forever honor them and their families in my heart and prayers!

This is such sad news that we have lost 2 fine Marines so early into this deployment. May God watch over their families guiding them through the difficult days ahead.

To the Marines of this unit, bless you all. What a heart wrenching tribute. Stand strong, stand together. Your brothers are now watching over all of you. Thank you for the sacrifices you make for all of us.
My son is also a Marine recently deployed to Afghanistan with 2/7 from 29 Palms, CA.
May God be with all of you.

My prayers go out to the families of the 2 Marines who were Killed In Action. My nephew, who is assigned to the 24th MEU, and who was one of the wounded Marines is struggling with the loss of his comrades. Please pray for the mental strength, and the speedy recovery of him and the other Marine who was also wounded. God Bless all the Marines assigned to the 24th MEU and their families.

My heart goes out to the families of these fine Marines. Your sons are 2 of America's heroes and the sacrifice they have made for their country will never be forgotten and will always be appreciated. They will now be standing guard in heaven and watching out for their brothers as they continue their mission. No words can express the sorrow that I am feeling. My thoughts and prayers will be with these families.

Tragically this thread will probably be visited by an ignorant individual that goes by several names AKA Marat/Lefty Lacrosse/Big John Wayne
The commonality is these will all originate from the UK. He will say the most disrespectful things
in order to provoke you. I'm actually surprised he hasn't been here already.

Has a fellow service member this family and his friends have my sympathy. Rest easy shipmates we have the watch.

My son is a Marine, proudly serving with the 24th MEU in Afghanistan. He was a part of the convoy where the two Marines were killed on Wednesday. He was literally right there when it happened, and he was overwhelmed with sadness and loss for his fallen comrades.

I know that my son faces dangers with total committment and does not consider anything he does a sacrifice. He is proud to serve the Corps and his country.

My heart goes out to the families who are weeping for their sons and brothers and nephews. These brave Marines have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. This grateful mother thanks them.

Our son is a Marine, also proudly serving with the 24th MEU in Afghanistan. He was also part of the convoy where the two Marines were killed.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the families that lost a loved one and also for the ones that has suffered injuries. As one of the injured was one of our son's best friends we pray for him daily and wish him a speedy recovery.
May God bless all of our men and women serving our country.
