Jailed Marine: Letter from Mexico Dashes Hope for Early Release

Full story: Fox News

Any hope that Jon Hammar, the Marine imprisoned in Mexico on a disputed gun charge, might be freed in time for Christmas has apparently been dashed by a terse letter a top Mexican diplomat sent to Hammar's congresswoman.

I couldn't agree more. We have been sending aid for decades, and for what? Who has benefitted from it the most? The corrupt fools in charge, certainly not the people for whom it was meant to help, otherwise we wouldn'te looking at the crush of illegals from mexico who sneak in daily. BO, demand that he be released...the mexican illegals have no problem making demands of us.

Yeah! Cut the foreign aid all the way around, we got our own problems to deal with. I was a Marine from '81-'86 and not only visited Mexico but Japan, the Philippines,South Korea,Thailand and Australia. Before entering ANY of these countries we were told repeatedly that they were not the U.S.,that they all had very different laws and enforced them differently than the U.S. and most importantly, if you get into trouble there...you're on your own! It seems that if we expect our laws and the enforcement of them to be respected by other governments,we must in turn respect theirs. It was a bad deal for jon Hammer,no doubt about it but when he decided to go surfing and shooting in South America he also became subject to their laws and enforcement. Had he stayed in America...he'd be in America.

Excuse me.. which 300 million are you talking about?

----------

There are several things to say about this article.

(1.) First of all, the "bomb first ask later" right wing Miami Cuban ("worm", as real Cubans would say) approach didn't work. Misscalculated.

Hammar will be tried.

(2.) I honestly believed that this man would go out sooner... but it seems that recent events like the murders of Mexicans in Mexican territory by Border Patrols, with absolut cynism and impunity by the part of the US... finally are making effect in Mexican authorities.

(3.) Sarukan is a former famous academic in Mexican Universities, and had attended many top-level events in the last years. He has a lot of experience dealing with "Americans"... would be interesting to know his rationale in this case.

----------

What is the oppinion of "Bomb Mexico" and "Badtothebone"... would they send "Delta Force" or not? ;)

Regards.

Yes! Now if we the US could just get the USA to enforce the laws with so much zeal and tenacity. You would see millions jailed that came illegally. Deported and so on. Then put them in prison in the section were they have mass murders and crazy killers in solitary confinement. What is fair is fair.

You would see Mexico do an about face really fast if we enforced the rule of the law as they do.

Yes, I know sirius. It is the choice of the US government not to enforce these broken laws to the letter. Just shows there is a lot more humanitarian aid, and compassion on the Northern side of the border given by the US government, to Mexican law breakers.

Go figure!!! Even the higher ups in the Mexican government said the weapon was legit and not the so called banned weapon. But the government does not have control of their money hungry constutuants. It is all about money and not because of the war on drugs. That is a smoke screen. You seem to write well, and I would think you would be smart enough to see through it.

Have you nothing to say to condemn this sort of thing? I guess I should ask so I know where you stand. If you are reasonable and fair? What do you think of this. Do you think this is over the top and beyond ridiculous like I do. What is your stance without deferring it to the powers that be. You do seem to be opinionated, so I would think you have one. Your response may not make people happy but it lets people know who you are.

I am going to think you are going to say it is the law. But that is not expressing how you feel.

Remember this in your response. One in 10 killers here in Mexico is not prosecuted or found guilty. This guy did not kill anyone or have any intentions of killing anyone. He reported in and he has a weak .410 gauge shotgun. Not the choice of weapon to be killing people.

I believe this is for money. An American is believed to have more expendable cash. It is like when I go to the swap meets. They see I am a gringo and ask for more money. I have my wife ask now. I saw a used Harley Davidson seat and saddle bag combo the other day. A Mexican guy asked how much and they told him 1,000 pesos. I asked right after him and they told me 3,500 pesos. The first guy heard it and stopped me. He spoke perfect English and said he had lived in the USA for some years. He told me my skin was the wrong color and therefore the price. He offered to go back and buy it for me at the 1,000 pesos price. But I told him I really did not want to buy from them after seeing what they did.

It is for the money. They eventually get out if someone pays the money. They will push the issue until they get it. I have seen it happen so often. They get out by paying money before it goes to trial.

Get a reputation for shaking down gringos, and watch those numbers drop.....provided the cartels don't scare everyone away first.

Just like Tijuana and Mexico City.......
