The death toll from the cyclone that ravaged Myanmar may exceed 100,000, the U.S. Charge D'Affaires in Yangon said today. "The information we are receiving indicates over 100,000 deaths," Shari Villarosa said. Villarosa heads the U.S. embassy in the capital Rangoon.

4 The moral to this story is Malthus was right. Left wing, right wing, they both have skeletons galore. The US has killed many times more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians so far, and that's just so far. Who knows what the total will ultimately be with all the depleted uranium the US shoots up Iraq with? Malthus was right! |

It's hard to even think about 100,000 people and more, being killed. I am not sure how much the early warning would help given the poverty levels, but it should have been there.

Could you explain what a left wing dictator is? Somehow it just doesn't seem to fit if left wing equals liberal and dictator equals absolute ruler. Whatever this government is, they are evil for not allowing help to be given to the residents who are struggling to survive this tragedy. |

1 Malthus was a ninny just like you. This is about up to 100,000 people killed, not your hatred for the United States. Take your "blame America" rhetoric to another discussion. |

1 The Burma government either is totally incompetent and really has no clue how many died, or it did and was just hoping to keep the figure a secret. |

How do you not know that a storm that large is coming...did no one pay attention to the birds, the water levels, the sky? Its sad that this happened but when you decided to live in the 6th century and refuse to adapt to the new inventions like sirens and alarms...tragedies like this will happen...every time
