This is so true. And its giving us a very bad image, most of the new nurses are not really geared toward doing nursing works. We have 20 new filipino nurses last year and they left us after 3 months. The management is very upset and I'm ashame because I am a filipino too.

Simple, they just got a better offer somewhere else or a better working conditions. Some of these hospitals are so under staffed they give nurses 8-9 patients whereas other hospitals have 5-6 patients per nurses. Why should they kill themselves if the hospitals don't care about them?
And some hospitals have welfare overweight demanding patients who has no manners and some are even taking a crap on the floor just to make a mess.
Treat your nurses fairly and well compensated and nurses will stay..

you people are only hearing the management's side.. you have no idea what goes on during duty. huhuhuhuhuhuhu

I tell you what.. Pinoys in general will do anything to get a greencard. Some even visit and hide once their visa has expired (TNT) and everyone knows this. So what if some pinoys are Taking up nursing to acquire green cards? Is not illegal and it's their business.

Why are you people getting Anal about this? Why don't you talk about Pinoys who arrange marriage for greencard?
We should blame our Corrupt government officials including Marcos, Estrada, Manuel Quezon, Gloria, Ramos, etc for stealing our money

We are talking about the attitude of new Nurses here and this is the reality. Mga walang hiya nag iba nating mga kababayan at nadadamay ang karamihan. It will backfire on all of us believe me. Look at the 2006 Board Exam for Nurses, Look at the controversy with chinese foods with formaline...Time will come that employers from other country will stop from hiring our nurses.

Brian.. by that time, I am on my way to retirement. Too bad for the younger generation if they don't start changing their attitude.

Its already starting. Most hospitals now are reluctant in hiring nurses from the Philippines especially those with no experience. And this also includes second coursers taking up nursing just for the green card. Just the thought of them looking after me while Im in the hospital makes me cringe!

That's not a problem. They can always work for Nurse Agencies placing nurses to Nursing homes. There's also UK or the middle east first before applying to the US after 2 years or so. There's always a solution and the States will always need nurses.

Isn't that the cycle of life? So what's your point?
There are two kinds of people..
the ones full of hot air and the others full of cold air. Which one are you?

Not anymore in the UK! Their contracts havent been renewed. The NHS (UK Health System) is broke at the moment and they would only accept local nurses or from EU countries. Middle East?- Forget it!!! I will not work with those oppressive ARABS! Maybe after few years experience, then they have a bigger chance of getting in the US but they will be competing with nurses from India, China even the UK. Just because majority of the foreign nurses coming here are from PI, it doesnt mean it will continue in the future if the current nursing standards over there is declining (i.e nursing schools mushrooming everywehre, second coursers who only took nursing for the sake of getting a green card). Until the government officials over there will take an initiative of maintaining nurses' standards by closing those underperforming schools, prosecute those corrupt review centers and officials, the would be future US RN's can just kiss their aspirations goodbye. Our loss will be India, China, and UK nurses' gain.

I wouldn't worry about India and China because American don't understand their thick accent.

Dont worry? I could still remember way back when Nurses and Doctors from the PI are the most sought after here in the USA. Now, most foreign doctors are Indians. Given time Indian nurses will be more dominant. Dont get me wrong as much as I would like to believe that we Pinoys are well sought after I have doubts now with the new crop coming in (not all but some). With the current Nursing students (600,000+) spread across 400+ schools in the PI and quiet a few of this schools shouldnt be there in the first place, I wonder how in the world could they get good solid education and training (except of course for the well established schools)and the fact that only 10,000 visas per year allocated in the PI, not all can come here. And you said work somewhere else like Europe and the Middle East, they too are watching and observing what is happening over there. They arent stupid! Add in corrupt government officials, Review Centers, and the good for nothing PNA, Its going to be tough for new PI nurses to come here.It wasnt long ago that the Philippines is the second richest country in Asia behind Japan. Now, even Vietnam is catching up on us. We were once the envy of Asia and its sad to see our kababayans whom most are well educated going to places like Hong kong, Singapore , Middle Easts to work as House Maids or Laborers and have to put up with abusive employers and the Government are just too happy for the $13+ billion dollars that are sent to the Philippines via remittances and when it come to protecting their rights overseas they just to turn a blind eye....that really PISSES me off bigtime. The Philippine government regardless of who is in power is as sick as the previous government.
