Sounds like an actual size increase I think.
Also from the story: "Previous research from other groups has indicated that Alzheimer's disease has a later onset in bilingual or multilingual groups". While I'm currently working on leaning Swedish (Svenska), I'm learning at a very slow rate (Starting in 1973 but only had two Swedish words in a newspaper story about a Swedish Exchange student coming to town, and for everyone to say "God morgon" to her. I hope to visit Sweden again some day and the delay of Alzheimer's disease is a nice side effect.
