Kahukuan wrote: <quoted text> Mahalo "808 girl'..your comments are well accepted and would like to add a little more to your comment. The word "native" means belonging to a particular place of birth: grown, produced, or originating in a particular place or in the vicinity. However, because the 50th state is the only state in the USA with a name "Hawaii" that refers to an ancestry when the word "Hawaiian" is used, it becomes a matter of interpretation. Example: If a person is born and raised in California, he or she will be a "native Californian" whether they be white, Hispanic, Asian, black and etc. The same goes for being a native Texan or other states. And so, if a person is born and raised in Hawaii whether they be Polynesian, white, black, Asian, Filipino, Portuguese or etc, they are called native Hawaiians, which is appropriate. The word local Hawaiian is also referred to as those that have been born and raised in Hawaii. Transplants or immigrants would not fall under this category as native Hawaiian or local Hawaiian. It is understood that the word Hawaiian means an ethnic group of people that fall under the Polynesian ancestry. Just wanted to add a little touch of Aloha! Wassup Ingin Joe. I guess you call yourself Indian when you are in Nevada too, hah? You are one big wannabee Hawaiian. But at least you don't deny it. You're man enough to admit you are an identity thief and that you turn your back on your own Samoan culture or whatever. Good luck Mr. Wannabee.

What Katonk, every time you rant you sound ignorant and stupid. I'm not a native Nevadan or Indian but a transplant. Since you can't retain what I mentioned in my previous post, let it be known to you that I am a native Hawaiian. Go ahead and keep on hiding behind that kimono of yours. Wacko like you need one good slap across the head to bring you yo your senses. In fact you write and sound like Omama or Isle Republican that use to rant on these forums. I got your number, trying to hide behind the post name of Poi which is such an embarrassment to the people of Hawaii.

Talking about identity Thief..you're the very that is a thief using Poi as your poster name. Change it to Katonk..it sounds more appropriate for you.

A luau is just a party. Could be to celebrate an occasion, or to just have a gathering. Hawaiian food is the favorite and most popular. Any other ethnic food is also acceptable and welcome. A luau is not to show or show off one's ethnicity, but you can dress however you want and attend. It's just a party. Now these guys over in Iraq miss home, and would like to share a little bit of what home is like with their friends. Don't make it into something more than what it is.

But by your definition, so is Bette Midler and Ben Cayetano and George Ariyoshi. You are all "native Hawaiian" in your wannabee brain. But we both really know you are just a wannabee.

So why don't you ever see the university/college Hawaii clubs or other organizations like this put on a Bon Dance? Makes as much sense. It's a part of "Hawaii" history. Japanese have had Bon Dance in Hawaii for 100 years. That is the culture of many of those people who participate in the "Luaus" on the mainland or wherever. But it's always a "Luau". Why? Simple. Because everyone loves to play "Hawaiian", especially when they are outside of Hawaii where a large portion of the audience has no clue what a real Hawaiian is and so can be fooled into believing that these non-Hawaiians are actually Hawaiian.

People can put on a Bon Dance if they want. They figure out how to go about doing it, then go ahead. Want to have Hawaiian food at the Bon Dance, that's ok too. I've been to a few Bon Dances that served a wide variety of ethnic foods. You want to make a party at your home and call it a luau, then fine. It's got nothing to do with being Hawaiian, Japanese, or whatever. You want to have a luau at your home and have only Japanese food, then go right ahead. There are no rules. It's just a party.

Poi we are awaiting your donations of fresh flowers and authentic Hawaiian shirts, please get them out in the mail tomorrow as it takes a long time to get it here in Iraq. We need around 100 shirts and all the flowers you can find. We need to make this authentic afterall to not offend you. Once you man up and send the donations you can then make suggestions on how we should run this Luau.
Thanks!

Did you offer any help if you knew so much on how it's supposed to be? If not, you can't complain.

You've been to too many Hawaiian luau. Thief!!! "Embarrassing "Hula" performed by people who never danced in Hawaii." It might have been embarrassing to you (how would you know if that's not your culture) but I'm sure that the local Hawaiians were gracious and glad to witness people trying their best in performing the hula...at least they had the Aloha spirit..not like you, acting just being there!(thief) "Bad Hawaiian food"...Once again, how would you know good or bad Hawaiian food when you're use to your type of party..cracker and cheese, finger sandwich and chips. Probably you ate rice and kalua pig and cake and left all the good food (poi and all the ono raw food) for the locals. (Poi quote) "Thief!" (Poi quote) "Your poor ancestors must be sad that you have chosen to abandon your true ethnic roots for those of another." "Again, your ancestors must be weeping."
