Full story: Pasadena Star-News

Forget a carwash or raffle tickets - that's peanuts compared to the fundraiser Don Sheppard is staging for one of the biggest and most respected youth club soccer programs in the country.

God Bless, Don Sheppard. Where was this program when I was growing up? Being a Pasadena resident, I wouldn't miss this match for the world.

Why not print real story of LAFC. Club started in 1987 by Cherif and Afshin. Don took it over, a hostile take over 5 years agos and called it LAFC. He's not interested in helping poor, but his own glory. GET REAL. DO SOME RESEARCH!!!!

Don Sheppard is a great friend of mine and a great friend of soccer and our community. We, and our youth, and the sport of American soccer, are fortunate to have Don Sheppard. I love Don Sheppard. He should be recognized for all he has done for our community and the sport of soccer. His passion, energy, dedication, and generosity are unsurpassed.

As President of the Pasadena Sports Hall of Fame, Inc.(www.pasadenasportshalloffame.org ) I applaud Mr. Sheppard's effort to raise money for his organization. However, I can't help but wonder why such a massive campaign ( 2 million dollars) fails to include the other 25 or so youth organizations that service the "youth" of this "community."

LAFC came from a merging of that club along with Crown City United. Club soccer will always have it's drama. I don't necessarily agree with how Don does things all the time - but his heart is in the right place and he has been instrumental in getting many area athletes into good colleges.

I wish him the best.

Your "research" is clearly reflective of your low intellect. I have never been involved in a club with Cherif and Afshin, both leaders I highly respect and admire. You clearly lack in character and integrity and have never met me. To say I'm not interested in helping the poor is truly idiotic. To offer that I'm only interested in my own glory is preposterous. What is your name, coward?

lets all sing praises to the guy who has enough money to rent out fields (schools and parks) that the other organizations cant afford to compete with to keep the people even school teams off the fields so his club teams can practice. hence the conflict of interest that forced him to leave la canada high

Regardless of what people have stated, openly and privately, good or bad, one cannot deny that Mr. Sheppard is an INDIVIDUAL that put his money where his mouth is to support something obviously dear to him.

If only we had about another 25 or so like him....imagine the possibilities for our youth. Any hands?

I was just thinking if I was in Region 13 AYSO - I would feel a little slighted that our AYSO region just gave a HUGE donation to Pasadena and PUSD and nothing, but this private, Club team has a fundraiser and they get all kinds of public help --

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
