How come that people can't choose their own president???

I can very well understand why don't you understand "why people can't choose their own president". Because you don't understand at all what is "democracy". Greece is a parliamentary republic and that means the president is elected by the parliament, while the parliament is elected by tyhe people. The president has just an onorific state position and it is the prime-minister of Greece that has, alongside his government, the executive power. Greece is a very modern country and many other european countries have similar political representative structures.

Been gayreek you can understand NOTHING!!

THERE IS NO DEMOCRACY WHEN PEOPLE CAN NOT CHOOSE THEIR OWN PRESIDENT, THE LEADER OF THEIR COUNTRY!!!

He is NOT PRESIDENT, that's why he is chosen by the parliament, rather then he function as governor general does in every COLONY and NOT independent country does.

btw. Please tell us who are those EU countries that have as you said; " many other european countries have similar political representative structures"???
