Most of the silly systems are rotten to the core and Capitalism is not an exception.
Ask any people around the globe.

Should i mention the newly wedded capitalistic-oriented puny countries like India, China, Japan, or EU-member states?

I wish and hope that there will be a real change to check this barbarism whis is branded as uncontrolled capitalism.

Kamei is correct.

Corporate Japan has a lot to answer for. A lot of people just kill themselves because of overwork.

Thats why the Japanese lost their souls, in a souless corporate drone society.

I am a JSCCP clinical psychologist and JFP psychotherapist working in Japan for over 20 years. I would like to put forward a perspective as a mental health practitioner for some of the reasons behind the unacceptably high suicide in Japan.

Mental health professionals in Japan have long known that the reason for the unnecessarily high suicide rate in Japan is due to unemployment, bankruptcies, and the increasing levels of stress on businessmen and other salaried workers who have suffered enormous hardship in Japan since the bursting of the stock market bubble here that peaked around 1997. Until that year Japan had an annual suicide of rate figures between 22,000 and 24,000 each year. Following the bursting of the stock market and the long term economic downturn that has followed here since the suicide rate in 1998 increased by around 35% and since 1998 the number of people killing themselves each year in Japan has consistently remained well over 30,000 each and every year to the present day.

The current worldwide recession is of course impacting Japan too, so unless the new administration initiates very proactive and well funded local and nationwide suicide prevention programs and other mental health care initiatives, including tackling the widespread problem of clinical depression suffered by so many of the general population, it is very difficult to foresee the previous government's stated target to reduce the suicide rate to around 23,000 by the year 2016 as being achievable. On the contrary the numbers, and the human suffering and the depression and misery that the people who become part of these numbers, have to endure may well stay at the current levels that have persistently been the case here for the last ten years. It could even get worse unless even more is done to prevent this terrible loss of life.

I would also like to suggest that as many Japanese people have very high reading skills in English that any articles (or works of fiction which I appreciate this is) dealing with suicide in Japan could usefully provide contact details for hotlines and support services for people who are depressed and feeling suicidal.

Useful telephone number for Japanese residents of Japan who speak Japanese and are feeling depressed or suicidal:

Inochi no Denwa (Lifeline Telephone Service):
Japan: 0120-738-556
Tokyo: 3264 4343

yeah, a useful post. A lot of the foreigners here are also really losing it. They work hard and then it all goes in taxes, or in pensions they ll never get.

It makes them question their reason for being here.

If they re here for a lover, their mental well-being may last as long as the relationship does, but there are quite a few burnt, romantic westerners who still cant figure out why their J-lover just disappeared one day, for no reason ,with no explanation.

David Radtke wrote a book on it.

Japan's social ills all come down to how expensive everything is.

Absent parents? Its because they re working like crazy to pay the bills.

Teen prostitution? Its because of the absent parents, and they lack of meaning in life which they try to fill with brand goods.

Suicide? Its because of overwork to pay the bills, and inability to provide for the wife and children, or because they hate their lives and wives/husbands.

Loveless marriage? Rising divorce? Its because a lot of women married men who would be providers for them, and then they couldnt.

Sex industry? Its because the men arent getting it from the women who married them to just be providers.

Granted, I m generalising here but there are also a lot of people who fit the above stereotypes in Japan.

The price of everything expensive in Japan because Japanese cheat, steal, and lie. Japanese do not allow cheaper products to come Japan. Japan block foreign companies, and Japanese internal price high as no competition. Japanese company try to get max price in monopoly and cheat consumer.
Japanese racist in government block foreign labor to make cheaper product, so price to make products in Japan very high. The Japanese are dumb and cheaters. The Japanese company to cheat even Japanese labor, sneak to foreign country to make product, put the Japanese name on product, and charge dumb Japanese 3 X world price.

Foreign people make the mistake to feel sorry for such Japanese. But the same Japanese, if could be successful to steal, lie, and cheat other people would be happy.
Japanese is sick evil culture.Japanese will stab you in the back while smile is on face. Never trust Japanese.
Actually...yeah, sort of. This was a product of the LDP being in power for 55 years.

Now, who elected the LDP for 55 years? The answer, as John Lennon said, is THE PEOPLE. Only the people can control the people. So the LDP were in power due to the cooperation of the Japanese people to a large extent, for a long time. Obligation, or whatever.

I m tired of J bullshit, things like people cancelling on me at the last minute because they just cant say no directly, or they cant decide. Or because they are slaves to their boss or their jealous partner or friend or whatever.

I m tired of their high prices, their bra padding and bad breath in the office. Etc etc etc

I m tired of them abusing western kindness.I m tired of being a one-off meal ticket. I m tired of them using me as their gaijin experience because they are so bored and jaded with their boyfirends and husbands.

I m tired of people saying "thanks so much lets do this again" and then disappearing without a trace. Far too casual in the way they treat people for what is in fact their own selfish reasons.

I m tired of them trying to sell me stuff at high prices with no other advantage than its got a name like "yamaha" or whatever on it for what they think is a snob value brand name.

I m tired of their "negotiating" just being them saying the same thing again and again until you give in just to shut them up.

I m tired of them taking my Japanese speaking skills for granted and thinking they can abuse me in their language and overwork me as a result, and pay me less.

I m tired of being a source of income for companies and venues.

I m tired of them calling me at midnight because they cannot figure out a Japanese bank transfer system in their own language.

I m tired of them insisting in speaking to me in their crap broken English in business with an idiotic sounding Katakana pronunciation after 10 years of English lessons, even though I ve spoken to them in reasonably good Japanese.

I m tired of them expecting me to buckle down and pay high rents and contribute to their ailing pension system which I ll never get anything out of.

Obviously not ALL people fall into ALL of the above, but I d say 90% of J-people fall into at least ONE of the above.

I am a racist? No, I like Asians very much, I married one didnt I!
Sorry, Japanese is a nationality, not a race.

Their society needs to be sorted out. I have hopes they l do this now they got rid of the idiotic LDP oyaji.

I m outty. I found something waaay better.
