Being an active member of FF since 1985 it was with great honour I was elected to the Officer Board as Secretary. I was willing to give my time my expertise and an unfounded willingness to get things working. However having been on the Board for 11 mths now I found my efforts to be in vain. The accounts were not being properly looked after with a non elected member holding a cheque book. As secretary I was told quite aggressively by this non elected member that my only job on the Board was to take notes!!!!!!!!!! Also duties that I was carrying out that are laid out in the Coru for the secretary to do were also being carried out by this non elected member and it caused a lot of confusion for third parties involved.
The disrespect from this person also carried over to other people of the Board and even to member of the National Executive.

I think, particularly under the current climate, it is well for organizations like FF that they can turn away dedicated VOLUNTEERS who do their work in a courteous and professional manner.Regeneration Reform etc.. are words that are being branded about by the Party - well I think they ought to first look at the people they have in these positions who are put there by HQ, who are known for many years not to deliver the goods, who just want a name of belonging on a Board, and who just talk the talk but do not deliver anything constructive at the end of the day. Also after a General Election and the following Ard Comhairle meeting these peoples positions are null and void and yet they go on to dictate. Surely anyone doing a VOLUNTARY job is at least entitled to respect and do not need to be DICTATED to. We are all there ( or at least some of us ) to do a job and to try to find solutions for something we really believe in.

Anyway, having now resigned, I am now offering my services to an organization that will appreciate my expertise, my time and my dedication to the cause. FF are not encouraging people like me to come on board when all we want to do is our best. I will still stay involved in the Party but at least now I am not answerable or accountable for the lack of governance that goes on - and remember - all you people out there who are on Boards - there is a legal requirement of you to oversee that things are done right. As ELECTED members you are the ones who are answerable not those that are CO OPTED on or indeed those that are not ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE. I will be very interested to hear your comments on this especially from those of you who are giving their time free and not being allowwed carry out the duties that you took on to do.

Have a good day.
