Rangel 'raided' PACs for $393,000

By Isabel Vincent and Melissa Klein
November 14, 2010

Congressman Charles Rangel, whose ethics trial starts tomorrow, appears to have improperly used political-action committee money to pay for his defense.

Rangel tapped his National Leadership PAC for $293,000 to pay his main legal-defense team this year. He took another $100,000 from the PAC in 2009 to pay lawyer Lanny Davis.

Two legal experts told The Post such spending is against House rules.

"It's a breach of congressional ethics," one campaign-finance lawyer said.

Washington, DC, political lawyer Cleta Mitchell said there is "no authority for a member to use leadership PAC funds as a slush fund to pay for personal or official expenses."

Time for Anti-Inflation Planning

November 14, 2010
By DAVE KANSAS

The Federal Reserve has unleashed its latest effort to goose the economy, dubbed Quantitative Easing 2, and global stock markets have cheered. When you announce plans to print $600 billion and "throw it at the problem" people can show a tendency toward giddiness.

Now, less than two weeks after the Fed announced QE2, some of the giddiness is giving way to consternation and unease. In the run-up to the G-20 meeting in Seoul this past week, Germans, Chinese, Brazilians and Russians (anyone left?) all made strong complaints about QE2, arguing that the printing of still more dollars could destabilize the global economy.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke countered that the Fed's job is to focus on the U.S. economy, not everyone else's. Translation: "We'll do what it takes, and the rest of you can pound sand."

Mortgage Regulator Is Tapped by Obama

NOVEMBER 13, 2010
By NICK TIMIRAOS and DEBORAH SOLOMON

President Barack Obama tapped North Carolina Banking Commissioner Joseph A. Smith Jr. on Friday to head the regulatory agency that oversees mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency, which was created in July 2008, has been without a permanent director since August 2009. In addition to running the government's conservatorship of Fannie and Freddie, which is entering its third year, the agency regulates the nation's 12 Federal Home Loan Banks.

"He was one of the early folks saying,'Hey, this is not sustainable lending,' " says Michael Calhoun, president of the Center for Responsible Lending.

In 2007, Mr. Smith singled out federal banking regulators for resisting state efforts to root out fraud and warned Congress that regulation was insufficient for an industry that had "created an environment of negligence in lending practices and increased borrower confusion."

The Democratic Congress did nothing and the rest, as they say, is History.

I think your answer shows that obviously Obismal can't focus on anything of importance. With the economy failing, he goes off on healthcare, an excellent plan designed to bankrupt the state goverments, and now that the implications are understood, states are opting out because they cannot afford the huge cost of Medicade. The economy needed to know stability, so Obismal went off on the boggie man industry of the month with the clowns in the house (read Bwarney Fwank) who caused the crisis in the first place passing judgement.. Great - corporations are sitting on their capital instead of investing it. All along we needed to stimulate the creation of JOBS, and Obismal's latest fiasco screwed the pooch with a done deal trade agreement with South Korea that could have meant tens of thousands of US jobs.
The friggin Idiot in Charge personally screwed it up by insisting that unreasonable provisions that would only protect the corrupt union bosses were included. Result - No treaty - No jobs.
Great job Obozo - All you had to do was shake hands, and you couldn't even do that.
So now disarmament is his "Top Priority"... Great.
Is there any reason why anyone should believe anything the Idiot in Chief says? Everything the moron has done has been a major screw up. So who is worse, Osama or Obama? It is hard to judge, because both of them seem dedicated to the destruction of the US.
FOrtunately, a LOT of people came to their senses and booted out the stinking bums that voted for the Obama-Crap bills.
Good luck with the rest of your plans, Obozo.
As far as I am concerned, anything that you propose is toxic, and based on recent history, even your own party of loonies won't support you for fear that you might campaign for them...
Enjoy your last 2 years in the White House, Obozo.
After 2012 you won't be missed.
2012 - The END of an ERROR

Why did big Labor get a Waiver from Obamacare?

Critics have questioned the need for the exemptions, who got them, and why.

"Big labor spent millions of dollars pushing ObamaCare, which they made sure was stuffed full of union giveaways," said Patrick Semmens, spokesman for the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, which represents businesses.

"So the fact that the largest waiver now belongs to New York teachers union bosses might be funny if the rest of America wasn't stuck complying with the bill's onerous mandates."

While serving as president of the UFT and its parent group, the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten and her members endorsed Obama in 2008.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs dismissed questions about whether the waivers were approved as payback for past support.
