India and China have no inherent incompatibilities. They generally do not interfere in the internal affairs of each other. Both, as developing countries, value the importance of sovereignty and believe in a multipolar world. They hold similar positions on the issue of climate change, international trade and military intervention.
India for the most part pursues an independent foreign policy. Which is what both India and China need to do especially with respect to regional issues. It is in both countries interest that Afghanistan and Pakistan do not become total basket cases as a result of U.S. foreign policy - which is great at subverting and breaking apart countries but terrible at putting them back together.
With India's impending entry into the SCO, India, along with Russia and China will be better able to coordinate their actions to bring peace and stability to the region through trade and development assistance and not through lectures and the establishment of foreign military bases.
