In Dominican Republic, conflicting attitudes toward Haiti

Aug 4, 2010 Full story: Global Post 52

It's not as if Fabiola Jean had much back in Haiti. The "boutique" she recalls romantically was really just a tiny wood stall, scantly bigger than a walk-in shower.

racial and cultural differences.

Haitians speak creole, practice voodu as the main religion and are more homogeneous racially as 95% of the country is purely subsaharan african decent.

Dominicans speak spanish, are mostly catholics, about 80% of the population is racially mix - mulattoes mostly with the rest of the population beeing blacks and whites.

Beauty is only skin deep. Now let's talk about intelligence! I see how lazy Dominicans in the U.S are. Most of them cannot even speak English, especially the dominican hairstylists, the dominican men who choose to work as a Super and the list could go on and on. Last time I checked, not a lot of Dominicans graduated from College.

Here is the problem though the Haitian gov is inept, you cant expect the American gov to give Mexicans a birth certificate if our laws didn't have the 14th amendment (Blk Americans were the reason for this amendment now any one born here gets citizenship its not like this in MOST countries around the world!!)? right? Then why do you expect Dominicans to do this on an island where the gov of Haiti is inept, Americans didn't provide the earthquake money, neither did France, and DR has given millions, free healthcare and a University by Lionel Fernandez, one nation cant solve all Haiti's problems, its not fair just as its not fair for the USA to solve Mexico's problems...be reasonable! Blk Americans want jobs in the USA, well if 200 billion was going to help Haiti other than provide an Obama jobs program, you think Blk Americans would be happy about that? its not racism its national interest, also Afro Americans havent been to kind to Haitians like in New Jersey where they were fighting Haitians.
There is ethnic tension among every ethnic group during a recession due to a lack of resources instead of fighting among ourselves we should be voting the clowns out of office who give more money to the RICH!

By the way Milano I doubt you have a masters like my two sisters and friends..and yes we are all Dominican-American. Grow up, Last year there was a beautiful Haitain contestant for Miss World...and of course the Dominican one was beuaitufl in every ethnic group you have beautiful and ugly , also beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even afro Americans have standards of beauty they dont evne acknowledge (Beyonce,Alicia Keys,Rihanna...notice what all have in common) even Michelle Obama is attractive to a professional upwardly mobile person..I dont know alot of AA's who date Haitians lets be real, but I know alot of Africans who think they are beautiful and that is ok, some are...but that is cultural norms and values that are particular to each ethnic group...I think Zoe Saladana is superior to all of them..but that's My PERSONAL opinion.. women always talk about brains but lets be real not even they are attracted to brains if that was the case Mark Zuckerburg would be on the cover or every magazine..and for blacks Dwayne Wayne would have been a heat throb to African American women....no for women its Brad Pitt or..Vin Deisel...i wonder why? hmmm...lets keep it real!

By the way by birth in any country if you have Haitian ancestry you are HAITIAN! jos solies, is not like here where it is where you are born.. if it wasn't like this the entire population of Haiti would live in the DR and no one could find work, crime and standard of living would decline, just as if every Mexican (Mexico also gives no birth certificate to ANY other country including white Americans!) its nationality and economics and the fact Haiti ruled DR for 25 years until Independence in 1844 on Feb 27th...every country has rules...by the way rich Haitians not only live in DR but THRIVE in business, they have the money for a business , house etc and are granted citizenship...its more economic than anything. In any society always remember CLASS trumps RACE everytime!

the person who wrote this post is obviously Haitian always looking for problems and trying to give DR a bad image, but they are the only ones looking bad before the world keep doing it like that i already told my people in DR how this stupid haitians living in America behave, now people are going to treat haitians really bad in DR you guys can't win us just can't do any force only damage to your own kind now i fu***ng hate you and i did not before. Hope the Dominican government never give u the people you bastards frie in haiti. Ayiti doesn't exist
