President Donald Trump on Sunday mocked the leader of nuclear-armed North Korea as "Rocket Man" while White House advisers said the isolated nation would face destruction unless it shelves its weapons programs and bellicose threats. Trump's chief diplomat held out hope the North would return to the bargaining table, though the president's envoy to the United Nations said the Security Council had "pretty much exhausted" all its options.

Yeah. The "force North Korea into total bankruptcy" option was always the only plausible one. Too bad China won't let it go to that. The people in North Korea are going to need decades of therapy once this is over. At least this is kind of a "China seeing itself in a mirror" thing....and maybe a few other countries who are living according to the whims of an egotistical leader while taking on unmanageable debt.

Civil war is our destiny if global war doesn't come first....

It is no secret that Beijing wants to hinder a military escalation or even regime change in North Korea at any price.

If Kim Jong Un's regime were to collapse, China would face a -massive- influx of refugees from its impoverished neighbor.

Furthermore, China would lose its northern buffer, and the US and its ally South Korea would be at its doorstep.

China is therefore very interested in getting both adversaries back to the negotiating table.

Unfortunately, both tRump and Un are basically egomaniacal toddlers with nuclear weapons.

This has very little chance of ending well.

A war with NK might lead to a lot of people not waking up.

This is too serious and the implications of a war in this region is too sad to consider.

It isn't amusing when two man babies act like unattended toddlers with pistols.

I'm sure Trump will show the same determination and resolve he showed in the face of a Russian invasion and attempted annexation of part of another European nation.....he will say "Kim Jong Un could be my new best friend!" and try to get all sanctions lifted.

I could carve a better POTUS out of a banana.

"Rocket Man" sounds like a compliment. It suggests that Kim Jung Un is a strong and forceful leader. Donald, when there's nothing to say, don't say it.

For the past 24 years, the Chinese and North Koreans have met nothing but appeasement from the United States.

Now they are facing a man who would rather negotiate a trade deal, but is not afraid to back up tough words with tough actions.

You might note that Kim Un has bellied the red line but has not stepped over it. He recognizes that Trump will pull the trigger if given a good enough reason. Kim is an egomaniac - but he ain't stupid.

My comment was directed at the adults in the room.

You need wrap your head around the concept of wiping your own backside before contemplating international policy issues.

Bless your heart, but by sweet Christ in heaven you're REALLY not very bright, cupcake.

Oh yeah, all he's been able to do in response to Trump's ultimatum is launch yet another missile into Japanese airspace and say "America should be beaten to death like a rabid dog!" Trump has answered that by calling him "Rocket Man" to flatter him. Such a tough "paper tiger".

I doubt China is that worried. They would be fighting a land war and we would not be.

If anything, Kim's last scrap of sanity is to play the stooge for other players who I suspect drive their actual nuclear program. The global anti-US strategy is to bankrupt us the way we did to the Soviet Union.. it's working!

Impressive. I do believe you should tweet that to Trump so he can stop playing their sick game.

Let's leave aside how ignorant you are about the historical situation and focus just on your nonsensical remark here.

Ill Duce Trump said N. Korea would face "fire and fury like the world has never seen" if N. Korea dared to issue another threat to the US. The next day N. Korean threatened Guam.

What happened? You are a stupid, ignorant, anti rational, nativist know nothing, that's what happened.

So far, I'd guess that he does make that assumption. Nobody has fired a shot at any rogue missile. I'll bet that they watch their path closely though. Must be confident that they can shoot them down...and yes, Japan has their own investment in Patriot missiles so there's no reason to assume they can't act on their own. Everyone knows that Kim is just a kid who's just into civil disobedience.

Nothing happened to Guam. If the rocket had fallen within the territory claimed by Guam, the "Little Fat Boie" would have already assumed room temperature. A State funeral with all the pomp and circumstance would be under way.

I think that the US and South Korea would avoid a land war. They would bomb the NK military into the dark ages, then let nature take its course.
