North Korea's crazy government detains hundreds of thousands of its own unfortunate citizens, many in gulag style concentration camps. But perhaps the addition of a U.S. citizen to that shameful statistic will attract some press coverage.
Recent news accounts have indicated that North Korea has gone so far as to kidnap innocent people off the streets of many nations. That behavior, of course, is in violation of international laws. Since, of course, most countries frown upon kidnapping.
So if a U.S. citizen is being "detained" now, it may be useful to inquire whether the American traveled to North Korea in the first place or was simply kidnapped. Why should countries which disregard international laws against kidnapping be presumed to be accurate when reporting the deterion of another nation's citizen?
