15 years after China takeover, Hong Kong uneasy

Jun 29, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Salt Lake Tribune

For thousands of Hong Kongers, this weekend's 15th anniversary of China's takeover of the semiautonomous territory isn't a moment to celebrate but a chance to air grievances from corruption scandals to human rights to a widening gap between rich and poor.

residents have grown increasingly uneasy about being ruled by the country’s authoritarian leaders. Only 1,200 elites among Hong Kong’s 7 million residents had the right to vote for their chief executive.

Many believe Beijing heavily influenced Leung Chun-ying’s election, adding urgency to Hong Kongers’ calls for full democracy. Beijing has pledged that Hong Kong could elect its own leader in 2017 and all legislators by 2020 at the earliest, but no road map has been laid out.

Demonstrators joining Sunday’s annual pro-democracy march will also air grievances over scandals surrounding business leaders and government officials and recent cases of harsh treatment of dissidents on the mainland. Hong Kong’s mini-constitution guarantees until 2047 a high degree of autonomy and Western-style civil liberties unseen on mainland China, including freedom of speech.
Some are HK,ers are outraged by mainland Chinese women who come to Hong Kong to give birth, seeking prized Hong Kong residency for their children and a way around the mainland’s one-child policy. Even little things like ads with simplified Chinese characters used on the mainland, rather than the complex ones used in Hong Kong, have drawn residents’ ire

Why the HK celebration for 15 yrs they play Scottish blowpipe instrument with UK flag ?

The appointee is the "Queen" 's UK system and all others are voted by Honkongers

Why don't China demolate allof British structures to make a fresh start.

Why China is 1 country and hs 2 systems ? I can not understand, can you explain\

1 child policy in mainland and many children in HK ?

15 years of the return of pride for the Chinese people all over the world.
The properity of Hong Kong not only maintained but increased significantly. The prediction of the Colonialist, Imperialist, and reactionaries proved to be totally wrong, they are deeply dissapointed.
The great Motherland has protected Hong Kong from foreign conquest for 15 years. Hong Kong People except the few with erratic mind are now happy and high spirited. Gone for good the subjugation of Hong Kong People by foreign power. Gone for good the embarasment of the whole Chinese race.
Long Live the People's Republic of China !
Long Live the Chinese People !
Long Live the People of Hong Kong !

To mark the anniversary, Chinese President Hu Jintao (胡錦& #28644;) arrived in Hong Kong for a three-day visit on Friday, but the supposedly celebratory visit has been met with crowds of indignant protesters and turned into a security issue, he said.

Another issue of great concern lies in whether universal values such as democracy, freedom and human rights have been rightfully and truly exercised in Hong Kong under the mode of “one country, two systems,” Su said.

“Former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping (鄧小& #24179;) promised to keep Hong Kong unchanged for 50 years after unification, a once lofty promise that has became nothing but whispery sounds falling into the bottomless black hole of CCP history. The words scoff at the [political] reality of Hong Kong,” Su said.

Yes, history has told us that the Brit's should have dealt with the filthy, shameless, no face Commie's when they were just a small pimple on the butt of society. Now it has become a fully blown festering boil that needs to be lanced for the good of every one

Those Commies in here did not undestand What Capitalist and Socialist Communist are in differentiation ?

Capitalist is the one who goes out to get acquaintance of new neighbors for trade like in the old day of China Englang Spaniard France Portugal etc to sailling around for trade that will make more sociaalization to the world but also they do try to conquer others as expanding their territories as China did it.

Communist or Social Communists are almost the same framework of themselves, they try to trade only within Communists themselves such as USSR China North Korea Cuba Czecho-Slovakia and they also do try to conquer other as happned to East Germany (Berlin wall) and even they all are a few Communist countries but as history had shown they do fight each other for any reason of any things.

Result: People live under the Communism they always try to flee to the Freedom land but vise versa that means no one from the Freedom land wish or love to flee to the hardship Communist land.

Today, the Commies realized that they eat too much shhiittt and Hu Jintao starts to go around the global shakes hands with Capitalists for trades, Communist provide their cheap labors and the capitalist bring in the money investments and the trade mark "Made in China" had been started then.

Thats a 1st lesson for all idiot Commies today.

As HK as a good example with good Capitalist Eco under 99 years of British rule.

If the whole China country were under the same contract for that 99 yrs, China today do not have to drink milk contaminated with melamine and mercury.

BTW, UK will have to sale out all the interests in HK if they want hold Olympic on time. USA too.:)
