The United States of America that boasts to be the bastion of press freedom and democracy has ranked 20th place, here in Guyana we are ranked 39th out of 173 countries. This indeed is remarkable, since we have surpassed many counties including, France, India and Italy. This ranking speaks to the overwhelming freedom of the press and to information here in Guyana.

From our ranking of 88 in 2008 to 39 in 2010, it shows the commitment of the GoG towards press freedom and transparency. Testimony to this ,our Freedom of Information bill that will be tabled soon in the National Assembly, the free and unabated manner in which people express their sentiments on television and in the news papers and of course the numerous media available on the world wide web. Applications are now being processed for issuing of radio licences among others.
Undoubtedly there is a marked and clear transformation of press freedom in Guyana today as compared to the previous regime.
